Best 6L6 tubes you know of?

Post by LimpDickCheney »

I need input. Considering the E-H 6L6EH, Sovtek 6L6WXT/WXT+ and JJ 6L6.

JJ used to be called Tesla, the tubes tend to be advetised with both names.. presumably to keep the old name's market.

You've played one set of tubes.

You can't recommend something unless you have experience of different sets of tubes in the same amp over a period of time. You know nothing about owning a valve amp.

I'm currently sold on JJ's.
No regrets with either recent retubes for the Supro or the Traynor.
(The guy at Eurotubes is also great to deal with.) But I also likes me midrange a lot...

Harma is a new one for me. Never heard of them until I poked a nose into the Watford Valves thread. What are those like?

And is cryo really anything other than a way to charge a few extra bucks for the same shite? I'm more than little dubious.

The (apparently independent) reviewer does think it makes a difference, tho.

I read. I still remain dubious. (and I can hear the difference in sound when you coat the edges of a Cd with a green marker)

It makes some sense, but they sort of lose me with there being no quantitative measurable performance difference. At that point my skepticism starts kicking in. I'm kind of distrustful of the purely subjective perceptions when it comes to sound reproduction from spending a bit too much time with so called "audiophiles".

I'd have to hear it firsthand, I think.
