Current draw

Can you damage a pedal by not powering it with enough current? My zoom ultra fuzz wants 300ma, and my power bank has a 450 total. I was just about to plug the ultra fuzz and my Boss PS2 in, but I'm guessing the PS2 will have more than a 150ma draw. I'm gonna go check that now (doesnt seem to say on the pedal).

I've been wondering about this anyway, would it just be the same as having a weak battery? ie. the pedal wont operate as it should, but it wont kill it either.

I suppose on the other hand, could i knacker my power bank?

You won't damage anything, you just may find that it doesn't operate to it's peak performance if it doesn't get enough current. What does the PS-2 draw? A lot I presume? You may want to bite the bullet and get a Diago powerstation if you're going to be running several power hungry pedals (delays etc) as the power bank just won't do it.

The PS2 is apparently only 60ma, so imma go ahead and rock out. I'm still wondering about this though. If I plugged in 5 pedals, I think I'd have 5 that go over the total on the power bank.

Also, why the hell is the ultra fuzz 300ma?

Don't think so, I was in the same boat with a Powerbank before I got the Diago powerjobber, and all my pedals and the Powerbank still work fine.

It did create some nasty humming in certain venues though.

Because Zoom did a shit job of their power management? Fuzzes are normally low power - maybe because it does lots of different stuff it's ore complex? Who knows.

Doog, with my bank I noticed the hum get worse with more current draw.

When I've sorted out some other gear stuff (new amp and that, I hate waiting for one to come up on ebay :( ), I plan on buying a smallish diago board, probably the model below yours Mike (havent really looked into it yet) and I'm considering getting the diago powerstation to go with it.

Not something I've checked out properly, but I've heard a few stories on here about the power bank crapping out a bit, and it is annoyingly big.

Does the diago have a mch higher current rating?

3,000mA baby, apparently you can power 30 pedals of that shit.

Plus it's quiet too, no hum. I love mine, since it went on my board i have SO much more space and the daisy chaining is neater than having a spiders web with an epicentre at the Power Bank, which is gay.

My Power Bank used to just not turn on if the load on it was too great, which was annoying, I used to have to sacrifice pedals to get it working. I have the Showman, as does Lamp - Doog has the Gigman so you can see from his peds what you can fit on there. I would recommend getting both at once as if you mention here and me then James will probably cut you a deal- he's a good guy.

Hopefully an amp will come up for you soon, or you'll get off your arse and try a Peavey Windsor.

I've got a Godlyke powerall, it works spiffingly. Lower power than the Diago (only around 2000ma I think), but that's fine for me as the next few pedals I'm looking at buying are 12-18 volts anyway, mainly EHX and MXR (do they still make 12 volt pedals? I have an old one that is).

Voltage and current are two different things.

Yeah, it only started when I brought the PS-5 into the chain, digital stuff always wants loadsa current.

When I was looking up the PS2 just now, I think I saw the ps5 was only 50ma, then again that is a lot compared to something like a Rat2, which is only 3ma.

Yeah but I think the Godlyke thing has 12V and 18V outputs for other pedals like EHX ones, whereas the Diago is all 9V, unless you get an adaptor and then you can power 18 V pedals - unfortunatley my DMM is 24V.

Nah, you need an adaptor to power anything other than a 9v on the Godlyke. They only make one type, I think it's for 18v, not 12v. Doog, I realise the difference between amps and voltage. What I meant was that the Godlyke only powers 9v pedals, and the lower amp rating doesn't make much difference to me as I have all the power I'm likely to need for all my current 9v pedals and any I might want in the future. As it is, it wouldn't power the next batch of pedals I have lined up for purchase, like the POG/HOG, which are 18volts, I think.

With the power pump doohickey you can power 12v 18v and 24v pedals, although you can only run two of them on one godlyke.
