Where's the tape go?
That's right it doesn't have any, waste of time. How about boss/roland make an actual tape echo again.

There is no tape, only COSM. I think the DD20 was COSM although they didn't market it as such - it sounded fucking good though.

I just don't get that type of bullshit.
there are certain effects like Tape Echos, Oil Can Delays, Leslie Speakers, and Spring reverbs that no digital pedal will ever sound like. It's hard for me to get excited about that kinda stuff, that's supposed to sound like X. Why not just find a way to make an affordable Tape Echo, that's what the market really needs. Not another digital pedal that's gonna be obsolete in 10-15 years.

When I had the DD-20 I thought it sounded great, particularly live and loud it sounded full and lush blending into a room - I can't claim to have ever heard a real Tape Echo in person so I have no frame of reference but it sounded nice to me. However I didn't need all of it's features so I bought my DMM to replace it and sold off all my delay pedals *sniff*. I think digital modelling has a place in this world - some people can't afford a real tape echo nor do they wish to incur the hassle and costs that owning one carries with it, such as maintenance, breakdown and sourcing tape - which is only going to get harder as more tape manufacturers stop producing the stuff.
I think True Tape Echo will always be ruled by the sale of real Space Echo's and overpriced boutique shite like the TTE - apparently it has hideous bypass, imagine that! Spending 1200$ on an echo that makes your guitar sound poxy?

I didn't feel like making a new thread, but on the subject of overpriced pedals:
roffles. Tone Optimizer?

Imagine if EHX stopped making the DMM because they couldn't get any chips, which is actually not far from something that could happen. So they come out with a "physical modeler" of the Deluxe Memory Man. Wouldn't you be like wow "I wish I had the real thing".
I find all these Boss Products to be completely lazy. They're just capitalizing on their past with "new technology" of old classic pedals or effects. I haven't even heard this pedal, for all i know it could be a very nice sounding digital pedal with some good features, but so much of the sale is Tape Echo...SPACE ECHO. I find that cheesy.

Well, not really. I mean seeing as I already have a DMM you're talking hypothetically that I don't have one, I want one and that they're run out of chips?
To be honest I have an aversion to paying big bucks for "vintage" items, I think if I tried the new "modelled" DMM and liked it I'd be happy with that. I don't really care what people say is the
classic, or
better sounding example for that sound - if I did I'd be biamping an Original JCM800 and Plexi and playing an original 70's Telecaster Deluxe rather than playing a Reissue guitar with not-real-wide-range pickups in it (which sound rather fabulous to these ears - again I don't know what the originals sound like) through a multi-channel jack of all trades amp as I do.
I totally agree that Boss are cynically using their Roland Space Echo association with the branding and styling of the pedal to sell this COSM based Tape Echo simulation - but it's their legacy - they can do what they want with it. It's clever - the pedal looks cool.

But is it really change if it's just a facsimile of some old pedal?

I really want the RE20. I want to hear sample, it meets most of my needs in a rather cool way. Though you can get an original RE200 for like 250 if you are lucky on the bay.

i'm actually gonna raise a arguement using the boss vf-1 tape echo as a example, as it is the best on the market and sounds shockingly like my re-150 if my 150 had new tape. the self oscillation works right where it has ramp time, they voiced the mulittap well, etc etc etc. and you know i know my multihead tape delays rather well.

I remember you mentioned that if it sounds like the Tape Echo on one of your Boss half racks it would be good. I am not saying it can't sound any good, just that it isn't an exciting product to me.

Just heard back from GAK. They don't expect their shipment to arrive until mid August.
