volumes !

Post by WoO »

I have one maybe stupid question.
I play Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp, one 12" speaker, 40 watts, all tube.
Now, if I add a cabinet to Hot Rod amp of, lets say, 4x10" speakers, that can handle 400 watts, do I get louder sound or its the same?
I played small venue gigs so far and I think this amp is really nice and can cover even a little bigger venues if amplifed through one microphone, but I am wondering, if I add a cabinet do I get louder sound or not.
Thanks.

It will sound "bigger" in the same space as you'll be pushing more air and at the same volume but the actual volume is determined by the efficiency of the speakers in the cab and the way they interact in the cab. Make sure you match the impedance with the output impedance of the amp.

that is om right? my amp works in 4oms.
so, the sound will not be louder, but just bigger, and that bigger sound means only in tone... i read for some cabinets that they have, for example, 4 10" speakers, each 100watt power, and the result is 400watt. I thought that watts cant be added like that. But maybe Im wrong.

That is the power handling of the cab (i.e. the maximum power from the amplifier it can handle before the speakers are damaged), you will still only get 40W from your Deluxe going into the cab, the cab value is just a max value that you should not exceed.

Yes, I thought so.
But, what does it means when guitarist have 3 amplifiers on stage connected one to another? It's common thing. They get different sound sure, but not louder I guess. And they also put 3 mics to amplify all 3 amps...

It means they're a showoff cunt.

Sometimes they're just there for show and unconnected, sometimes they are slaved from the preamp out of one amp to all give the same sound, and sometimes they split the signal before the amps to go to Clean and Dirty setups.

None of this has anything to do with your original question.

yes. i like the idea of split channel. different chains of pedals going through different amps...it can be great. with a pedal like line selector.
it's all about the tone.
than, louder can get with line out of the amp and into the mixer, and than louden it up through BIG speakers...like extra amp. but i don't like line out of the amp sound, i like speakers.
thanks for time friend
