Rikki PM'd me to ask how the Tele/Doogcaster compared to a Jazzmaster, so I figured I'd do a very quick, basic demo (zero processing, these samples are "straight to board"), comparing a few guitars.

Each sample is neck pickup, then neck and bridge, then bridge.

SAMPLE

1) Mongrel Strat (0:00-0:23): Squier Jagmaster neck, early 90s Squier body, Mighty Mite wired scratchplate, tremolo blocked but springs left attached. "Neck on" switch added, so neck-bridge combo is possible.

2) CIJ Jazzmaster (0:23-0:46): Rhythm circuit removed and replaced with killswitch, Buzzstop, Seymour Duncan "Vintage For Jazzmaster" in the bridge position, stock neck pickup.

3) Doogcaster Tele (0:46-end): Squier neck, handmade body (<3), I think pickups from a MIM Tele, no tone control.

Not very exciting, but cool if you fancy seeing how they compare.

cool to hear a comparison, the jazz neck really just sounds like the strat neck, you ever though of changing that pickup too, also why did you ditch the rythym circuit?

I like the neck pickup in the Jazzy fine for the time being, I'm not too fussed about it not being a "proper" Jazzmaster pickup or anything. Maybe I'll put a "Vintage" in there at some point.

I never used the rhythm circuit- it's just a slightly duller neck pickup setting, hardly revolutionary stuff. Killswitching is infinately more fun.

so did you just rewire the old two switch to a kill?

Jazzmaster is bassier in the neck and twangier in the bridge than the Strat, the Doogcaster is the twangiest of them all in the Bridge - harmonics leaping off the fretboard.

Nope, I put a 3-way toggle in place of the 2-way slider switch- it's impossible to killswitch anything fast on that 2-way.
