So after a mild shopping spree at guitarfetish me and a buddy of mind had our cheap Ibanez' modded.

first off my orange one, contains some very simpl mods. Basically, the bridge pickup is an alnico with coil split installed. The silver/black knob controls the coil split. I want to get rid the white witch hats to get matching silver/blacks. I also added one of these on em.

I like eet.

and now.... sigh... my friend in my band has always talked about he wanted lights on his guitar. I always shrugged it off, but seeing GFS' body and neck clearance sale selling an ibanez neck with multicolored leds in star inlays, I felt like I had to make him happy. It was once an ugly red. but he bought some cheap car paint, which i helped him apply, and installed this symbol of pure tack. Enjoy the pics.

Image DO YOU READY??

Image he painted over the switch I installed for him :? I also removed the tone pot for the bridge for that switch.

I'm currently uploading a youtube video of the lights on for those interested. Pics of the LEDS on wont do it justice.

yea, but the lead was REAL hard to get to as there wasn't much coming out of the neck. So I had to dig out some wood glue that was in it already to find the pos and neg prongs for a decent solder connection

thats really cool that you would do that for your friend, kudos
it is tacky as hell, BUT!!!
one of my dream guitars is a fiber glass hollow body wit christmas lights in it.
go figure, now that im on my way to being a certified luthier i still can't build it.

the neck seemed to have some very strong wood glue material all the way through the back of the neck(still under some wood). The Inlays were basically clear with the leds under it. I dunno if that'll help or not, but i'd figure I'd tell you. I'm certain you can figure out a way to do it.

that reminds me of the rickenbacker 331 lightshow, funny how the only pics i could find of one had been restored with actual christmas lights:

An interesting email we received:
BW writes: The lights "guts" on that 331 you had were thoroughly non-original. The real thing has 2 raw, open circuit boards lining the back of the cavities, and 9 - 12v bayonet mount, automotive tail light bulbs (which had to be dipped in translucent paint for the colors), and sockets mounted to it, not those wimpy Xmas tree lights.

I sure would like to see that lit up. Must have looked hilariously cheesy.
