Os Ill Os Kope

Post by filtercap »

Thinking of buying an oscilloscope. I wanna try building something with some of the spare tewbs I have lying around, and a 'scope will probably be a big help. Provided I can figure out how to use it.

Brand/model recommendations? Cheeep/used/reliable = good, tons of extra controls I won't need = maybe not so good.

Seattlestoke, Washington, USA. Bit of a distance from Basinggrad. :( I might try ye olde Craigslist. But a few tips on brands to look for or avoid would be great.

If I was to buy one, I'd go for one of the slimfit digital 'scopes I used towards the end of uni, they were awesome. Built in scaling and information on waves, periods and amplitudes and everything. Really useful.

If you're getting into amp design you definitely need a scope to see what's going on in there. I reckon a digital one would be the business but an analogue one will be cheaper. Check ebay? They're pretty easy to work once you get around the reference voltages and triggering etc. Don't scrimp on probes either.

I have a BK Precision that works awesome. It's a dual trace -0- scope. Another handy tool is a Huntron tracker. They're relatively cheap ($150) and worth every penny.
