That toasted Boss chorus

Someone plugged the wrong PSU into this Boss CH-1 Mk 2 chorus

they have loads of circuits on there
Yeah, it's on my Favorites (and probably Cowbell's) but they only had the Mk. 1. It did help though.

They have the same 8V/4.5V power circuit, so I dug out the carbonised bit of the PCB, stuck an ordinary NPN transistor in and got sound but no chorus. Found no 5V on the chorus chip, located a dead 5V regulator, patched a big old one in and got chorus. I'll be down to Maplins at lunchtime to buy a micropower 5V regulator (with the wrong pinout), then I can stuff it all back in the box tonight. What threw me to start with was that one output is just buffered input, so after I replaced the regulator I still had no chorus - until I switched to the other output.

So, what should I charge my son's schoolmate for the repair? :) assuming my son even knows him still, as it's been about a year...

Ah, well. Turns out it was about 2 1/2 years ago and Matt hasn't a clue where the guy is, so it now belongs to him. Hmm. I find it a bit subtle compared to my Electric Mistress clone. I reckon we should sell it and split the dosh, but he won't see it that way, will he? ;)

I think you should find the guy, give him his pedal back and £20 for the fact that it took you two and a half fucking years to do something with it.

Wow, Gavin, just wow.

I'm pretty sure Nick's kid didn't give it him until recently.

Get the kid to do what I just said then. Seriously, I hate useless cunts that keep stuff forever.

LOL. Sure. It was going in the bin and my son said "give it to me". It's what they call BER, Beyond Economic Repair. Boss won't give you a schematic. There isn't one on the net. When stuff is scrap I'll take a look at it if I want, when I want, as a hobby.

I'm probably a little grouchy 'cause I got a massive fuckin' coldsore on my lip. It's really getting on my tits.

Anyway, if the guy gave it to you then what's the point in giving it back? Just keep it or sell it on the 'bay.

Well, if he'd been prepared to pay for the repair the money would have gone in my equipment fund. :)
If it doesn't go back to him my son keeps it, which means nothing goes in the equipment fund. :(
