band practise loud? or just bedroom? does the loudness actually depend on what kind of speaker you put through it (haha im sort of an amp noob)?

is it louder than a blues junior?

or should i throw those 2 ideas away and save up 200 more and get a blues deluxe?

From what I gather, it'll get loud enough to keep up with a drummer, but won't stay clean since you'll be pushing the output stage a lot.

You can't have it mega clean with a drummer, but you don't have to go full on AC/DC either. It really depends where you're playing and what sort of speakers you have. I have a 2x12 and I can use it at band practice fearlessly.

well, it all depends on your situation. If you're in a band, i wouldn't suggest a 15 watt amp. but a clean tone is very important to me, as well as being just as loud as the rest of the band.

Unless you absoloutley fall in love (not likely) with a hot rod, I would issue my strongest warning against them. They just blow apart sonically, at about "3" or less on the volume dial. NOt to mention the reliability issues I've heard, and the reported "stale tonez"

NO experience with the blues deluxe, other than I heard that the hot rods are pretty much the "blues" series with distortion channel?

If I could "do it all over again" I would have bought a great amp straight away, and filled in the rest of my gear.

save up for something that will really get the job done the way you want it gandalf, it's totally worth it

Small gig (unmic'd) loud if you don't mind a colouration of your clean tone. Crystal cleans above a drummer you can forget about. Anything else you have PLENTY of volume for with a 2x12".

Gareth plays at rehearsal and gigs with a 1x12" semi clean just fine.

Pickups make a difference to the headroom you'll get, single coils or neck humbuckers and you'll get a lot more clean volume.

If you like things dirty is louder than you'll ever need. Seriously, you'll never dime the volume and gain. You'd die. It's a fucking monster.

it's 15W clean remember.

i didnt see any other options, they dont sell marshalls or laneys here, the only thing i could look up is something used, but its usually a rip off in this contry.

might wanna check out a cheap secondhand london city, i kinda like them, i forgot, which model it was, all tubes, 50 watts, 300 euros or something secondhand, fender bassman tops go for about 300-400 too (check kapaza or marktplaats, 2dehands.be)

speaker wise, if you're on a budget, you can easily stay below 300 or even 200, just check thomann or musicstore, dolphin music also has some cheaper cabs up for sale, and secondhand ones, single 12" cabs might not be ideal for live situations though so i'd opt for a 2 x12 or something


i loved the sound of the tt, played it at stores and it's defo something i would buy if i had the extra cash and i'd be looking for a home practice/recording amp but for live situations.. unless you have a fantastic PA with fantastic monitors..it'd be hell i reckon, also just a single channel.

rehearsed with this band a couple time for some kind of high school band semi reunion and the guitarist had a blues deluxe..it sucked, he was using a rat II for distortion and even with that great pedal i didn't like his sound

i didnt see any other options, they dont sell marshalls or laneys here, the only thing i could look up is something used, but its usually a rip off in this contry.

i have a blues deluxe, definately the best purchase i ever made. their very clean amps, even the drive channel doesnt do much more than a bit of crunch, so i use a booster or overdrive pedal. i normally have the volume around 2/3 as it tends to be very loud.

thier similar to the hot rods, but with less gain, better tone and better reliablity. From what i gather from guitarist magazine, they were desinged to give some of the 50's fender twin/tweed esq tones in a modern amp. There were two versions. the orignal model was from around 1993 if memory serves. These models had known realibilty and poor building issues. the 2006 model (which i have), was reissussed and revamped for the 60th aniversary of fender.

there very difficult to get hold of, i got mine by a chance call to my local guitar shop around the time of my 21st birthday, hence why i got it

mike you overstate how bad the hot rod series is. i know in the uk they're definitely not worth the price, but they're really not as bad as you make them out to be.
i just put some different power tubes in my deville and re-biased it. and it sounds way better than it did stock. as for reliability, i've never had any issues with mine and it's about 10 years old.

It's the price in the UK that really irks me but there's also these things:

1. The speaker is junk
2. The overdrive channel is useless
3. The master volume control is linear instead of log (fucking fender). Meaning you have two settings at home - off, and too loud to not upset neighbours.

i actually really liked it, it sounds like a monster when driven by a muff, thats when i first tried it; and my second try i just played cleans and they were really cool and punchy and could go quiet as well as loud. i think i might want the blues deluxe.

aww..so many HotRod haters. I personally LOVE mine. but i also don't have a standard Hotrod model. I have the texas red model and its loaded with a Vintage 30 so the thing sounds AMAZING. ive been nothing but pleased with clean and overdrive tones. I do know that on standard hotrod models the overdrive does sound like complete butt no matter what guitar you put through it. Just try out what you want bro, its you who ultimately decides on what you want anyway.

Just as loud as the Chinese kids can make them.

Fuck the hotrod series.
I played one for more than a year and for that kind of money you can get a much more kickass amp.

The regular Blues Deluxe is fucking killer though, like dude said above. I played a show with one and was liek "WHOA." the whole time. It was magic.
