If you were say to get a Bronco Bass, refinish it, gloss the hell out of the neck, maybe put a bigsby in it (HA!), what kind of pickups would you install to make it the most kickin, punching, bad ass, loud ass mickie fickie bass (but not Badtz Maru Style)?
Just a thought, maybe I'm getting too ahead of myself with projects, but I would also like to replace the bass pickup in the musicmaster.

i'm gonna be boring and say the obvious thing as a p bass lover: american fender p bass pu (split), not the vintage ones, the one they put in their MIA series, mmmmm
of course that won't fit without mods

jazz bass quarter pounders from seymour duncan. oooohhh yeeeeaaahhhhh.
Whats the difference between a jazz bass and a P bass besides aesthetics and how do their pickups differ?

jazz bass : punchy growl, thumpy
p bass : more agressive growl, more hollow bell like sound, a bit more oomph
it's personal taste really, i liked the look of a MIA jazz bass more, but the feel and sound of an american P made me order a P instead. don't hate jazz basses but i always feel like i miss something when i'm at a store and i wanna try something and they only have a lefty mia jazz bass there (it's harder to find p basses over here), then i play it but i it just lacks that bell like p bass sound with treble all the way open on the guitar.

I don't know of any basses with Bigsby's I dont know if it's even gonna work with fat strings.

the bass string tension may be too much for it. but we can always but a somewhat smaller gage of strings ala BASS VI or something

I love it when basses get the low growl on the open notes. I look for good sustain, good lows, and smooth highs. The P Bass sounds like the telecaster of Fender basses but it does sound more attractive than the jazz bass.

Holy crap! That amp sounds amazing!!!
What model and how many Watts is it? I'm currently using a Hartke 250 Watt for the head and 400 for the Cab, mostly because it sounded good and was affordable. But Ampegs are pretty $$ although it sounds like its worth it. Bass sounds awesome as well! Thank you

that top's prolly worth less than your hartke though lol it's an ashdown MAG 300 top and gives about 175watts through that 8ohm ampeg svt410 (HE version), i loved the growly mids it produces, it's solid state, i sold it a few weeks ago to a trace elliot fan who was looking for a cheap backup.
the ampeg was a good investment (think i spent a bit more than 700 on it), it's goddamn heavy for a 410 but has wheels, i like it.

In that case I'd put in one of those vast Music Man bass pickups.
Or else a Gibson EB-0 humbucker. In a bridge or mid-bass position, one of those would go WHOMP purty nice.

A pair of Jazz Bass pickups placed right next to each other and wired in series might sound amazing. It would be even more amazing if you could move that arrangement closer to the bridge though. On the Bronker that would involve some serious routing outside the pickguard.
The small pickup is the cool thing about the Musicmaster bass -- can you find a replacement pickup that's the same size?
I think a lot of the badassity you seek may be found in the amp (and pedals?) more than the pickup.
