Garageband should have come with your mac...
If it didn't you can pick it up with the iLife package for about £50...

I think Reaper is cute... Cuter than Logic, just wait til I figure out how to customize you LOGIC!!!

Anyways. GarageBand is your best bet. Soundtrack can record stuff, but you don't have MIDI options. You don't have MIDI period... I have no clue of the price of ST, tho. Musician's Friend

The OSX version of REAPER is still in heavy development.
You can create your own skins for it if you want and there are tons of user created ones too.

I don't really give a shit what it looks like, it works really well. I use the windows version. There's a new version almost every two days.
The creator actually takes suggestions from the forum and most likely you'll see a change in the next few versions. It's awesome.

+1 for Ableton Live. Bit more expensive than $175 however.

Any love here for Audacity? Works pretty well on my old powerbook, but I'm not asking it to do anything too complicated, just recording myself one track ata time. But at zero dollars, the price will allow you to upgrade sound card, mics, etc.

logic or cubase. I like cubase though I haven't got in depth yet so..

I don't use garageband at all rally unless I use the drums on it.
What audio interface do you use?
