my friend got a danelectro dc '59 this week and she brought it over yesterday, asked me if i wanted to try it and instead of just flipping it around we flipped the strings too and oh my ... i loved the feel and sound of this guitar, especially the clean sound is great !
she bought it secondhand and it looked like this but with plastic white tuning pegs (?) :
it think it was made in the early 2000's or something
i did some research today and saw the the current reissues have black knobs and the 2000's have chrome tuners so maybe the owner changed the tuners.
anyone know what the differences are quality wise with the current dc 59's ?
i remember seeing one of the 'older' 59's up for sale at a lefty guitar shop here but never went to check it out, i checked the site today and the guitar's sold, haha.

ya, simple and retro, love the black/white combo but the boring black knobs on the new ones ruin it looks-wise... never tried the new ones either, i wonder if there's a big difference quality wise

There is a difference, sounds like you played the same as what I have. the new models have hotter pickups and I also heard they are build different? like more like a solid body than with counter tops

which is totally against the dano ethos.
top guitars.

I had the choice of getting my Mustang of a lefty DC59. I wish I could have gotten both.

yeah hurb, i remember you demo'd yours once, i liked the clean tone, twangy
so the new ones are the old ones on steroids but with less 50's mojo ? dammit

I've heard the new ones are just like a strat copy sound in a dano shape. basically with danos the older the better.

I have one of the new ones, there designed to be slight relic'd and have slightly hotter pickups, but there still quite low output.
The headstock on the newer ones isnt the classic "coke bottle" style, it has a slight cut out on the treble side. i've played a 2000 and my 2007, i like both, but the 2000 has the edge for me, i miss the stacked volume/tone and the headstock. the 2007 is still a nice guitar though.

it's annoying eh ? why didn't they just stick with the early 2000s models
also, you're baking an egg on your CE-20

I think they had to change the headstock because they sued
Jerry Jones, a custom Danelectro style guitar maker from Nashville who has been making Dano style instruments since the 80's. When Evetts Corporation brought back the Danelectro name they weren't thrilled there was somebody in the market making very good US made Danelectros, but he had permission to use the shapes from Nat Daniels the Danelectro founder.
For awhile Jerry Jones stopped making exact Dano shapes, but then he brough them back and ever since Danelectro has been making their pro models with that fugly headstock. So I figure they must have lost the lawsuit.
But that Fugly headtsock still makes no sense, because Danelectro had other headstocks that were cool looking.

Yeah I believe Jerry Jones went over to Hawaii to see Nathan Daniels in the early 90s to speak to him about the guitars. So any deal was probably worked out then.

thats the secret to a rich chours sound, use an egg.
getting rid of the ce-20, but keeping the egg lol
i'm tempted to flog my 2007 and search for a 2000, they come up quite a bit. that or get the 12 string dano 59.

I don't know if it was any sort of business deal, more so than Jerry Jones being one of the few people who early on recognized what a genius Nat Daniels was and how his innovations were a great way to make a guitar that sounded unique.

What I meant was he had his blessing to recreate authentic versions of his guitars.

If You get so far, and would sell it to a 'suspicious' person in the baltic states, then for a reasonable price I would take it.
