An awesome hookup

I've got a buddy of mine that is a luthier for Lakland Bass here in Chicago. He has worked on a couple of guitars for me and does setups for all my my friends guitars, he even built one of my guitars for me.
I gave him the Swinger last week to do a proper setup and some fine tuning on the neck because I couldn't get it to stay in tune. I met him to pick up the guitar today at the facility where all of their basses are made and started talking about guitar necks.
[a little history] I've owned somewhere around 30 or 40 Mustangs in the past and no two have ever played the same and NONE have ever come close to how my 69' lpb feels. I've had plenty of vintage comp Mustangs, same year, some were the same color, one even had the same date stamp, but never had the same contour. For some reason this one neck is flatter than the rest and also allows for lower action. I should also note that the neck on my guitar has a 21 stamped over top of the 16 at the heel and I've not been able to figure out what other guitar had a 21 stamp.
So, as I was talking to my buddy today, I mentioned how allparts had 24" scale necks that were new for $125 unfinished and they don't offer them any more and how if I had known then I would have bought a couple of them. Even though the allparts neck I have isn't "great" it is better than nothing. He laughed and said he could make me some necks if I wanted. He even told me he would make contour templates off of the neck I love so much and make exact copies of it for me, stained and nitro finished. He quoted me $250 for each neck and another $80 if I want blocks and binding.
Damn, i'm so stoked right now. Why I didn't talk to him earlier I don't know.
The shitty thing, is that I will have to give up my number one guitar while he makes the necks and I won't have the dough to do it for another month since i'm trying to buy another 69' comp orange right now.........i know........i know.......poor baby

i actually just measured the profile and thickness of two 96 fender shortscale necks, one was a jag-stang, and the other was a jaguar, they feel almost identical but somwhat different, but after measing i was shocked to find that the profil of the neck is different, kinda weird when you consider that indeed, same year, same scale, same everything, the only difference is one says jag-stang and once says jaguar.

The profile on my blue guitar isn't just a little different, it feels completly different. I've had the guitar for about 15 years. It was beat up when I boght it and has taken a lot more abuse since then. I've always searched for another like it to no avail. Now I will finally be able to keep it at home and throw the new necks on a couple of my other guitars and hopefuly recapture some of the magic this one has given me.
I'm thinking I will have one blocked and bound with a matching headstock (and white decal) for my comp orange ri and use the other one for an eventual new build.

I spoke with my friend today. I'm going to have him start making the necks in about a month. If anyone is interested I can have them made for you. He said it is easier to do a batch at once, while he has the tools set up. It will take some time to build them and let the nitro dry, so it wont happen overnight. I realize my taste in necks might not be the same as anybody else, but I just thought I would pass it along.

basically it would be like 320.00 for a block and bound neck?
i can'te remeber if you said that was finished or unfinished,
that would be super cool, but im not sure if i really have the cash needed to blow on one at the moment.

yeah man, stained and nitro included. I figure I'm gonna have him start in about a month and it will take at least another month to make them. It's still gonna take less time than my finnished Warmth neck took and have B&B.

I have looked and asked just about everywhere for the Competition matching headstock decals. I am almost ready to try making them myself. Do you know where some can be had?

I bought mine from a ssorg member who got in touch with me. I met him in person over this past weekend and said I was interested in a few more. I don't know where he gets them, but last time I bought 4. His profile may have been deleted during the crash,so I can e-mail him and see if it's ok to put you two in touch if you want.

They're pretty good. The only difference I really see is that the lines that make the word Mustang look like it's moving aren't dead on.

I can actually see that the MUSTANG is not as tall or skinny as the real McCoy but I still don't care.

For some reason (to me) it doesn't look as short and fat once it's applied. I'm happy with the ones I've used, but keep in mind, these are just my opinions. I'm not in the decal business and am just passing along info.

I looked at the pic with it applied to a blue compstang and it did look a little better when applied
