Deft clear works just as good and is a third the price.

well, can you show me where? every wood store and hardware store here either doesn't have it, or charges 40 bucks for a 13 oz aerosol can.

i'd rather spray with cans than brush. and i don't have a spray gun, so that's out of the question...

what hardware stores are you going to? deft clear is about $5 a can out here. rustoleum clear also works and is about the same price. you can get it home depot.
or if you want stewmac sells clear for about $10 a can.

ace has it for too much. lowes does not [oddly], i've called and looked. home depot is too far. and wal-mart i LOVE to avoid at all costs... but they'd probably have it.
it's not like i need clearcoat now, but i was just curious.

rustoleum abounds, but i didn't know if it was good enough.

this is good info for the future.

If you like Rusto and are a big fan of spray painting guitars, you may want to try Montana paint. It's like 8-13 a can, depending on the size (250ml to 600ml & possibly higher). It's made with graffiti writers in mind. Some local graff shops should have it (I know of 1 in Dallas if you're near). You can buy it all over the net for the same price. It's also from Germany, so you Euros may get it for a better price. It's considerably more thick than Rusto, which is a lot thicker than Krylon... I should get a body and try it.

I was looking at Montana paint a while back, thinking of painting a guitar with it. They have a great colour selection: many of them appear to be dead ringers for the classic Fender custom colours.

Yea, they're pretty ridiculous. I took a pic of all the colors in one of their pamphlets... You should check out the website, tho, and check some of the graffiti done on trains and what not.

Have you ever used the stuff on a guitar? I'd be curious to know how durable it is, and how it takes to sanding polishing.

Naah. I'm thinkin' of it, tho. I've only used it on boards and bricks. I would also put a clear over it, tho, lacquer, ya know.

i heard a lot of hype about not being able to sand montana paints well... that it peels off like latex.
