I had started to develop a deep hatred for all things MESA based on so many people I know using Triple Rectifiers for metal....they suck.
The Studio .22 however, RULES! Nice score. They made a studio preamp too, and I dug some of their other combos like the subway blues and rocket.
Cool amp as long as you didn't "pay for the name" too much.

Damn, I've never seen an entire post I've wanted to "+1" more than this one. I developed such an irrational dislike of all things Mesa during the late 90's, but immediately preceding that phase I really, really wanted a subway for my first "real" amp, I had a guitar magazine with a review of the blues and rocket and went and tried them in GC. Old-school Mesa FTW, PRS thru a triple rectifier seemed like the new "Superstrat thru a JMP" for awhile though, all the flash in the pan "heavy" bands were using that shit and having endorsements hurled at them every day.
The Rectifier's distortions made my ears hurt. It was like a hairdryer.

well so far i'm loving it. I did order some new pre-amp tubes as I was getting a little squeal.
got 2 groove tube 12AX7's
btw I paid 550.00 for it
to answer another question it is a 12" speaker
Paul I totally wanted a subway rocket and bid 625 on the one below.
In my travels I checked out the 5:25 express...unimpressed
but really liked the Lonestar Special 5/15/30 but at 1799 and the Stiletto Ace was hot
but the bottom line was I wanted a practice amp for our little space and this studio 22 is doing it
has the EQ which I've hardly used...figure I need to know the amps regular functions first.

I love that amp. There are a few Mesas that are gems.

I've got a Caliber .50+, which is pretty much the same amp. It's great, but I'm selling it to fund an Orange AD30TCH.
