Does anyone actually use theirs? I like the look, but I got frustrated and took mine off due to buzzing.
I never really found a use for it anyway, but I do think they look cool on a Jag or Bass VI.

Had it on my old Jag, thought I'd use it, but found it annoying. Took it off.

the one that used to be on my jaguar was long gone before i got the guitar.
i'd like to try one out for some funky muted stuff. it'd be fun to see what uses i can find for it.
one of these days i'll buy one.

I don't understand what the point is.
Why would you want to mute that jangly ringing sound? That is a Fender Jaguar.

I mean - what is the mute for? To stop the ringing of the strings behind the bridge?
I would consider that a part of the Jaguar sound.

i think it was intended to free the guitarist from palm-muting.

WTF.
You mean it muted all the strings instead of your palm? That's retarded.

why do you think no one uses it?
i have seen some old jazz basses with individual mutes for each string. which kinda seems cool. i guess.

I think the story is that Leo Fender, who did NOT play guitar, heard that surf dudes liked to palm mute. He designed this device to do it for them, and no-one ever used it. The end.

That story sucks. It's not half as good as 'Slaughterhouse 5'

You can create an identical effect just by using some fabric: one day I'll start a "prepared guitar" thread - we'll all be like little Thurstons and Lees.

I couldn't get mine to really work properly anyway. The thing would cause all the strings to go sharp, so it was even more useless.
Here's a youtube vid of what it does: (Apologies in advance for the tapping. It's the only vid I could find)

I think I know a simpler and cheaper solution.
