Technology trends- Make thinner guitars?
So the trend for electronic products and more are to make things thinner, sleeker, lighter, and all those things that make this thread sound like a Daft Punk song. You can see it in cell phones, cameras, camcorders, televisions, computers, and even self conscious people. The Squier bullet is significantly thinner and lighter, but not so hot in quality/sound to my opinion. The plus side with basswood is that it is lighter and gives guitars a different sound, but the downside is that it is nicked more easily.
What do you guys think about guitars going in this same direction? Good idea or bad idea?

As long as it still sounds good, i'm all for it. the thinner and lighter a guitar, the better in my eyes.
That said, i think weight and density is heavily related to tone and sustain - also people are reluctaint to try new technologies. The big revolution will come in mass-producing guitars out of fibreglass - Aireline tried it (and failed), but Switch Guitars (www.switchmusic.com) have done a great job with mimicing mahogony and ming great sound instruments cheaply.
It's only a matter of time before one of the big companies puts some R&D into this area and kicks off a new trend.

BAAAAAAAD idea.
They're meant to be made of wood!! Traditionally, I would want to feel that there is something there around my shoulder - heavy, solid and likely to still work if it ever got twatted around someone's head keef style. I like the idea of the yamaha rgx series but don't know if i could handle the lightness, no matter how cool the led things are.
I've tried a few necks too - wizards are too anorexic, slim strats are all good and the baseball bat that is a 50's style gibson is reassuringly solid. Lighter maybe, but the feel and playability would still need to be there...
