I just picked one of these

up for a song off Craigslist and I must say that sofar, I'm quite impressed.
I've never been a fan of Gibsonesque instruments but this thing is just 100% stone cold rock machine.
The build quality looks pretty good for what I payed. Altough I have no idea who makes them, the pickups are also quite good
in terms of tone and balance. The web doesn't seem to want to tell me who makes these things, so I was hoping maybe some of
you guys had some info, regarding that. Also, I was wondering if any of you have used one of these for a while and whether you can
give me some extra info regarding reliability and such.

until the day Epiphone starts making nonreverse firebirds again this is as close as you can get without selling out.
and by selling out i mean selling your house.
good job with it.

I'm pretty sure those are made at the Jay Turser Factory in China. I once picked up an Eastwood sidejack from Mike's place. (Owner of Eastwood Guitars) and got chatting for a bit. he told me he had a plant in Korea that made all his models that were over $399 and anything under that was made at a Chinese plant.
That was before he got his big warehouse, the company was just starting out. I liked the guitar when I bought it, Hated it after a while. Didn't really do it for me, pickups were dull, and it was way too heavy for me.

the jack being on the corner like that worries me a little (a lot). its too bad the pickguard doesn't go down farther on the guitar....then you could just rip out a tone pot and put the jack on the front of the guitar

Hmm yeah, absolutely that jack thing is a problem. I'm thinking of adding an extension guard (like on some SG models) and plopping the output on there. another thing that probably gets modded on this thing is that profoundly ugly headstock.

That makes sense, There
was a pretty conspicuous "made in china" sticker on the neck joint. You know, the kind you find on the underside of badly painted resin figurines of children fishing by an implied stream that you get from the dollar store?

depending on how big the hole is for one of the tone pots, you might just be able to jam a washer under the output jack and it would look fine

Yes, I'll consider that. Like, rip off the upper volume pot, turn that into an output jack and rewire the remaining three knobs, from right to left: master tone, volume, volume.
