Should I do it? (short scale trade)

Hey guys,
I've been trying to sell two of my shortscales (a 69 Mustang RI and a Jaguar HH) to fund the purchase of a AVRI Jazzmaster. I know, evil huh? Don't get me wrong, I love those two but I usually play my Jazz/Tele hybrid way more and I've since got "un-used" to the short scales on them.
The shop near me is selling a white Jazz with a small ding on the back of it for $1200. Other than the ding it's in mint condition and even has the plastic on the guard still on. So far, a few people on craigslist have made offers for my short scales but none were very high and I could probably sell the guitars or part them out for more on ebay.
However, some guy just said he would trade a Gibson ES-333 in red (case included) for both of them. I checked ebay, and those seem to sell for at least $1100.
I understand a bunch of you hate the evil that is Gibson, and to some extent I do too. But it'd probably just act as a stepping stone towards getting the Jazzmaster, and hell I might even like it. If you were in my position, what would you do?

Find the guy wit the Gibson, rob him, hang it on my wall and save up enough to get the AVRI Jazzy... That way, you'd have at least 5 awesome guitars.

never settle for something less. if you like the jazzmaster, go for the jazzmaster.

Obviously. But I can't actually trade the two shortscales in for the Jazz, the shop would only offer me about 850 for the two of them. The Gibson would be a heavier bargaining tool, I could probably get 1000 for it and then pay the difference for the Jazzmaster.

Don't do it, it's not a fair trade. Look what the things are actually SELLING for on ebay. it's more like $850/$900 that you'll actually get, if that.
The 333 is one of the ugliest gibson semi hollowbodies out there (it's the model Tom Delonge has a signature FFS), and I LIKE gibsons AND semi hollows.
Just sell the two guitars on ebay, put in a few $100's of your own moneys and buy your jazzmaster.

This is not the Delonge model (which I agree, is fugly) -- but why is the ES-333 ugly? It's basically a 335 sans pickguard and pickup covers... and I dunno but ebay and harmony central reviews seem to point at people getting them for around $1000+ used
I am glad someone is trying to talk me out of it, but I dunno, seems like a good deal.

that shop is r-r-ripping you off. sell both the guitars and you should come close to the $1200 needed for the jazzy.

I know, even from a shop's perspective, it should be easier to sell two guitars for $500 or whatever than one for $1200. But they said they couldn't offer me much. I don't really feel like dealing with ebay too much. However, the guitars sell new for $650/700, so it's not like I could really sell em for $600 anyways.

if you sold both on ebay/craigslist you'd probably come out with around $1000, maybe a little more. i'm sure you can muster another $200 or so from somewhere.

As I said I've had them posted on craigslist for a little over a week now, with a few responses here and there. I'd be happy to sell them for $500 a piece, but I'm afraid that if I wait too long that Jazz is gonna be sold before I can place the downpayment. I just seem to think that the ES-333 would be a better bargaining tool. I also have done a little websurfing, and 1100 seems to be the going rate for them nowadays... they are a discontinued model.

The shop isn't ripping you off. They've gotta make some money on them as used guitars, and they can't pay more for a used one than they do for a new one. They probably would give you around $850-$900 for the Gibson too.
The reason I say the 333's ugly, is mainly the barebones looks. It's kinda the faded SG of gibson semi hollows. matte finish, no pickguard, no pickup covers, I just can't dig it. If you want a straight swap and only want to get rid of one guitar instead of two then go for it.

the ES-333 is a turn-off for me too. but ok... try to play it, listen to it and if your heart sez do it, do it.
OR.. get your "dream guitar" (jazzmaster). maybe you could sell your stuff here...

and get the $ for yer guitar. you'd proably get more than $850
good luck!
Pat.

Honestly, the 333 doesn't sound very good. If you were doing Blink-style distortion it would be fine, but anything that isn't completely distorted sounds crummy. They also don't play very well.

fuck that 333 gay ass shit. bubbles is right, don't settle for anything less, get the guitar you really want. you will be happy.

Holy shit, does nobody actually read the post?
***I DONT INTEND ON KEEPING THE ES-333!!
I would be trading for it since it is worth more than the two shortscales collectively, and thus would be a better bargaining tool towards getting the Jazzmaster. And also a better interim guitar since I'm not really down with the short scales anymore.
And I again repeat, this is a Made in Memphis Cherry Red ES-333 with two pickups, not a Tom Delonge POS.

Haha, no I just spent way too much time playing my custom guitar with a 25.5" scale length and baseball bat-like size. Don't get me wrong, I love the way they sound, but I don't think I could really play a gig with them again -- my hand cramps up after 10 mins with either of them now. I do have pretty big hands/long fingers, so that probably has something to do with it.

i think it's all in your mind. 'sides the gibson is ony 3/4" longer than the jag/stang.

I think everybody read that. You asked for opinions. That's what you got.Seems like you're looking for someone to tell you to do the deal but the guys are trying to save you from heartbreak. If you want it,just get it and don't keep trying to justify it.I'm telling you this to save your ass from the grinder if you keep pushing the issue. You will not change the 333 hate to loev.

Oh well, it's all moot anyways because the guy changed his mind at the last minute and decided he didn't want the Jag all that much and instead offered the Gibson for the Stang and $450. Fuck that noise, I guess I can wait until I find someone offering cold hard cash, haha. Kind of a personal bummer though, I'm pretty sure I could have sold the ES for $1000.
This was not a ploy to build my post count up, but I guess I'm a little closer towards being able to view the classified section on this forum... maybe one of you guys will buy my guitars in the future!
