It sounds like it would work fairly well if you turned the vocals down a hell of a lot. It's hard to get a feel for the balance of everything else with the vocal so loud, but it seems ok underneath.

Agreed. I would also add that I might've heard a lotta midrange, which I would cut. Or maybe boost some low treble on the guitars. The kick could also use more slap, and the hi hats could also be turned up...

What is that distortin effect on the guitar?

Maybe a bit more focus of low mids on the bass and roll some of the lows off- when I turn my sub down, the bass pretty much dissapears. I'd favour a little more snare too, but that's just personal really.

I like how the other guitars fade out for the start of the solo.

The Distortion is from a Naylor head.

The solo is using a flange/delay effect with the same sound.

The octaves at the end are a mesa boogie mark II head (Like the blue album)

Mix sounds a bit better at a higher quality, dude. I'd definately put a bit more low mids/upper low end in the bass though- it'll definately make the mix a bit fuller sounding and help the bass not get lost on less rumbly hi-fi setups.

It sounds just like the blue album sounds. Especially with my P90'd SG.

I've had it for a good half a year now. I'll take some pics, its sweet.

hehe, well, if there's a boost in certain areas it can make vocals that aren't that much louder, seem way louder. Or maybe, they're flatter, so, possibly everything could sound duller. I'm speaking in theory, of course, I'd bet that they both have great speakers.

I definitely have the vocals mixed more pop than rock. But they aren't TOO loud.

From my soundcard into my Hi-Fi amp and then into Hi-Fi speakers.

I don't really listen to this sort of soft pop rock stuff so I guess I'm not that familiar with the mix style and how loud the vocals actually are. I listened on headphones too, and to me they're uncomfortably loud. But if it's what Ian's aiming for, I guess he's done it alright.

I finally got around to listening, I just started. No problem with the vocal level for me. Very radio-friendly vocals.
It's hard to critique mixes on myspace, but this sounds pretty good so far, lots of bass, but that's good for modern stuff, rite?

where did you get those? what did they cost? are they really super good style?

Handmedowns from my hi-fi fixated Dad (just bought a tube hi-fi amp ) , used to be used on his main home work PC. I've actually got a previous model, only has controls for volume, amount of sub volume and "Attitude" which is more or less a treble/upper mids control.

Love 'em to bits, I've had zero problems and they sound great. The speakers and amp all have proper sprung terminals and beefy cables, so you'd be hard pushed to fuck it up. Very cool for mixing/mastering, since you can disconnect the main speakers and just listen to how the sub reacts, compared some "pro" recording, or just turn the sub down to listen to the mids and highs.
