Whouse got 'Metal' guitars?

Post by Fran »

I just got an EMG 81 system at a bargain steal which made me ponder..
out of curiosity who owns a RAWK guitar on here, ya know, that Jackson Floyd Rose hid at the back of your wardrobe. People on here dont think its kosher so speak now or forever hold your silence.

Suppose i could say my old Flying V falls into that category and the Squier Stagemaster certainly does.

I bought a purple-burst LTD superstart type thing off nick last year, with a floyd rose and everything.

Not having any screws, I taped an epiphone humbucker that I got off shad onto it, and taped a potentiometer to the outside of the body (no washers or bolts), and then made a knob out of tape. Then, I made a strap out of tape, and set it on fire in a few places. It rocks.

I can't remember what strings are on it, I think the heaviest is a seventy two. It's tuned A to A, and brings the mehtulsz.

I really need a more powerful pickup for it though. I usually put it through a Peavey bass amp, with a Black Widow speaker. 'sfuckin loud, like.

I'll try and get some pics sometime.

I first refin'd it Greenburst which came out horrible. Next I did it in a vintage white matte finish that actually came out quite good. I should have left well enough alone but one day I got really bored and wanted a daisy rock.

This is the only picture I can find of the purpleburst, I think I have more somewhere though.

One of my good friends is a true shredder. He plays all that Malmsteen, Becker, etc etc 80s stuff. It's fairly impressive to hear and see someone play some of the neo-classical stuff once in a while.
Anyway he owns some USA Jacksons like the following:

The "Graveyard" one is ridiculous in the best possible way....the case is the size of a small car too.

my Yamaha RGX321FP "Free Art" guitar. The whole face of the guitar is covered with a large transparent scratchplate, so you can change the design; the paint pattern is just drawn on cardboard. I'm not a metal player but its a nice instrument - I used to gig with this for about a year, as the floyd rose REALLY keeps it in tune (durr), also sounds nice clean or distorted.

Only issues are that i keep clipping the middle pickup with my pick, so had to lower it till it was flush with the body. also it came set up with 8s - waaay too light and easy to bend out of tune.

I'd love one of those Ibanez RG350DX's, I'm just put off because it looks like a Vai guitar and I don't want people to think I'm a poser. The necks on those guitars are really stunning though, for someone like myself who has small hands and can barely manage a Tele, the super-slim Ibanez necks are a dream :)
