i was at guitar center hollywood this evening and i saw a jazzmaster hanging on the wall. at first i thought it was an avri, but on closer inspection i realized that it was a mim.
it actually sounded really nice through a twin reverb reissue. the pickups have adjustable pole pieces. it's a very solid guitar and very well-built. the only complaint i have is the location of the trem, it kept getting in my way. and the arm does screw in place. it's also really short like a strat trem. and not as subtle/fluid as a standard jazzmaster trem.
the guitar center price was better than musicians friend at $759.99. they're having a big sale on monday and i'm really gonna have a tough time keeping myself from buying it. it was that nice. oh, and it was black, not sunburst. it looks way classy.

i also got to play a '70s orange 120 watt amp downstairs in the vintage room. that thing was super loud. my first time with an orange. now i want one.

That $759 price might've been without the $40 fender gig bag that musicians friend "includes".

Adjustable pole pieces huh? that's a weird one. Were they definitely single coils or were they hum canceling?

they seemed to be single coils. as far as i could tell anyway.

you might be right about the price. guitarcenter.com has the black one listed for $799.99.

you should use your last bit of employee discount to get one instead of a keyboard. i doubt you'll regret it.

Already bought a keyboard, a Yamaha MO6.

I'm buying a shitload of cables and stuff too before I go.

I have guitars to play, that are nicer (IMO) than a mexi jazzmaster. A nice Jag or Jazzy is on my list someday but it's going to have to be either vintage or A/V. I don't think I'd care for another poly guitar.

Also my GC didn't get them in, would not buy a guitar at this point without playing it first.

I'm still surprised at the concept of MIM Jaguars & Jazzers.

I figure it's hitting me that way as well, although a lot of me is quite pleased simply as I would love to see variations on the original such as an MIM model all over the place, and let the instrument finally get the respect it deserves in the history of teh rawkz.

Still, I'm more than satisfied with a pair of CIJs.

Just never thought Fender'd do it, and I associate those guitars with Japan.

What about the American Vintage RIs?

When I'm not talking about those, and I've not had any experience with them so don't think about them that often.

i probably just wouldn't use it all that much. or maybe try replacing the unit. it's much more similar to a strat trem in the way it responds.

I'm not a whammy bar guy, so it probably wouldn't bother me. What was the neck like? Nice and glossy like the MIM '72 Telecaster Deluxe/Custom Reissues?

yeah, it was glossy and neither fat nor thin.

i read a "report" on one from this guy on offset.
he said something wierd about the trem, that it was not as smooth or something.
whats the deal? it looks the same as a normal trem, is it tighter or something weired like that?
the screw in deal may have been a wrong move but i think the whole design for both was for 12 year old kids and completely guitar illiterate folks.

the trem is definitely a new unit. it's not even close to either the us or japanese reissues.

could of been a setup issue? depending on how there setup jazzy trems can react very differently.
