Finding out where an Epiphone Casino was made...

How can you tell where a 1997 Epiphone Casino was made? The seller claims it's Japanese but I have my doubts. I'd like to be able to know for sure before buying tomorrow.

The first stage would be to get a Serial Number from him, I'm sure they'll be a website you can search on somewhere to determine the origin and proper date.
