Painting details on your guitar

Post by roachello »

Have you guys ever painted a picture, flowers, pinstripes, anything on your guitars? I really want to learn how to pinstripe so I can make cool little designs on pedals, and maybe guitars [probably not since I'm a bit of a purist] , but what type of paint can I use? Also, will I have to gloss it afterwards to lock in the color?

I'm sure you'd have to clear/gloss over whatever designs painted on there unless you want them to fade faster or feel different from the rest of the guitar. I think making stencils would be good for that type of thing.

With a brush though, I'm not sure what type of paint would be best. Why not spray some nitro or poly on to a pallet? I'm not so sure.

If your pin stripping is simple enough you should look for pin stripping tape. It's basically tall/ thick, but still pin stripe thin on that dimension...
You may also wanna try airbrush or airbrush paint (if you wanna go the brush route) since you may need thin paint...

I want to get a pinstrip added to that red/yellow/green bronco.
