Hi folks, I remember a while back Rick used an unconventional method of wrapping the strings around the bridge before heading to the tuners...

I assume this would help the strings stay in place... and add some tension and sustain ??

Anyone care to comment...? and some links pics would be great.

Don't know if this has been talked about it much detail, or even if this was something only rick himself had come up with. I know the obvious solution would be a buzz stop but I don't wanna ruin the aesthetics

Any help would be much appreciated...

from my understanding, it reduces the breaking angle on the bridge, easier to bend, more sustain, break less strings, adds mojo
but i could be wrong

Actually I might misleading some people here... it is a jag but a stang bridge...

does the make much difference ?

Its never been discussed on here, as i remember. The pics are somewhere on fenderjaguar.net, Ricks website.

I did look on there before posting but couldn't see anythin... I do remember the pic he posted original on jag-stang.com but I think it'll be a real chore to find it now... I have also posted across there.

do you mean a mustang trem-bridge setup where the strings wrap under the cigar-tube tailpiece? it was designed for that as the string holes are recessed at the top of the tube.

No it's a jag trem... on a stock CIJ Jag.. I've just replaced the bridge alone for a mustang bridge.


As I remember the strings from the trem go over the top of the bridge wrapping around once and then out with the strings sitting in there saddles.

It's a totally unorthodox method. I will try find some pics..

i would imagine it would cause some tuning slips and what not.
if it works then go for it but personally i think you would better off with a buzz stop.
do you use the trem much at all?

Not really a trem man... but there are times when it may get used...

I dont get it. and whats with the paper shims between the saddles? surely they dont move that much to where they need shimming.

try it and then give a full report (the wrap around thingy)...As for the buzz stop I like mine, and it can easily be removed if you don't like it...

when i bought my av jag(i miss that thing) it had a buzz stop on it, after a couple weeks i took it off, i honestly did not notice a difference in tone/feel/ sustain, and i never had a problem with strings jumping, but i did spend a good hour tweaking the bridge to my tastes and setting the whole thing up correctly.
i would imagine that if you did that wrap and tried to use the trem a whole mess of bad things would happen.
