hey all,

i'm thinking that it's time to change the valves in the blues deluxe. i've noticed that it's popping a little every now and then. plus i think it could sound better that it already is. currently to has the orginal groove tubes that were in it when purchased. what do peeps recommend? i would mind checking the bias etc, maybe even putting a new speaker in?

Anything but GT's basically, which are just rebranded.

Doog uses JJ's, I use JJ's or Tung-Sol's. You might also try Mullard Reissues. If you're getting pops and crackles, replace your preamp tubes starting with V1 (normally nearest input jack and with a metal can on it). If you amp is sounding more dull and lifeless you might want to replace the power amp tubes and rebias.

I would recommend shopping around at tubetown.de (i think), hotrox and watford valves for prices. I personally am going to go for their Harma Cryo Preamp tubes when I next need to do a retube, I was really impressed with them when euan demo'd them.

I also would say that you only want to replace a speaker if you're not getting the response you want from an EQ band you've maxed out (not enough bass for example) or if your amp has a nasty high end response you want rid of.
