Japanese Jazzmaster Copy (pic heavy)

Post by BobArsecake »

I meant to make this thread when I got this guitar in February, but just haven't been home really to do so, but I'm here for the night so thought I'd do it now. I got given this guitar by a luthier than I know, it's been rusting in his loft for decades, not sure how old it is but I think he said he's had it since the 1960s. Anyway, it was bloody filthy when I got it. The bridge seems glued down, as does the scratchplate, though I'm not sure whether it's just that the screws have rusted so much that they won't turn/come out in one piece. I'm going to properly tackle it this summer anyway to see. The pickups are actually alright, the electronics are a bit shot so the bridge pickup is quite dodgy. The action is not that great further up the neck, but like I say, I think some wally has glued the bridge in, but I'll see this summer...

Anyway, it's quite an interesting copy, very Jagmaster-esque.

I bet that was cool as fuck back in the day. Looks like it'll be fun as Hell.
If you think of god as a pair of pants, a spiritualist thinks he needs pants, in fact he wants pants but none of the conventional types of pants seem to fit just right, so he makes his own pants and is happy that his knees are no longer cold.-fibus

I really don't think so. I mean, its not like there were MIJs back then that the filipinos would copy. It's in the spirit, but a completely different make. Almost looks better than a real fender.

True, but that could also be a replacement neck plate.

Oops, double post D: It plays alright and sounds nice actually. Just some dodgy electronics and strings are a bit too high nearer the heel of the neck.

I like the Fender logo on the tailpiece - would be right classy if it was centered.

possibly, yet that neck plate is shaped rather uniquely

To answer all Qs...

I imagine the truss rod does work, it looked ok from under that plate.

Nah, Hurb, I can't make the meetup 'cause I'm in 'murkia D:

Probably not, Mike, maybe if I can get it properly sorted this summer, but I don't know D: It's still filthy to be honest, it needs properly taking apart and dipping in acid or something.

That's the Ibanez style Jazzmaster copy. I can tell from the shape of the truss cover and pickups. It looks like somebody did a bad refin and some goofy changes.
