Buying speakers, need advice/suggestions

I have an empty speaker cabinet (post coming soon) and need to buy myself a couple of speakers to make it less empty. I'm not sure what to do with ohms and all that malarky. A quick read suggests this to me...
two 8ohm speakers in series = 16ohm
two 8ohm speakers in parrallel = 4ohm#
and that most 4 or 16ohm outputs will suit me. I can't find anything concrete but it seems that bassmans are 4ohms so doing parrallel should be best.
I'm going to be wanting 10" speakers, and I was considering getting one vintago 30 style (they do a 10" version) and one greenback. Wise move?

It's exactly what I'd recommend.

Purchased. The place I was going to buy one from had only one greenback in 8ohm left, and none of the other. Luckily some guy was selling the other on ebay for a BIN price that worked out at exactly the same price as buying both at the same time from the original guys. Plus, I now get two happy new speaker days.
Cabinet mostly assembled, pics and a retitled thread coming later today.

Where did you get the 10" greenback from and how much? I'm sort of interested in one for my TT cabinet.

This shop that mostly sells on ebay. The one they have on ebay is 16ohm, but they come in both 8 and 16 format.

I bought the 8ohm one using their site rather than ebay, and it came to about £53 after postage. The vintage 30 type is £30 before postage from them, and I got mine for £30 inc from some guy on ebay just selling one.

Yeah I knew those guys, I asked them to mail me when the 10" Greenback came out. They didn't the wankers.

£44.99. I'll probably pick one up next month.
They seem to have only 16 ohm greenbacks on their site - where were you able to select an 8 ohm one?

I'll let you know how they are for postage speed and packing. I imagine it'll be fairly prompt.
While we're at it, does it matter much what type of wire I use to connect the speakers and jack? I have some wire that is too chunky for pedal use, and a little too big for guitar wire. Perhaps 32 or something as opposed to the more regular 22 I seem to see mentioned with guitar stuff. It's stranded too. This would be fine I assume?

That'll be fine. As long as it's two cores and not shielded and core you're good.
I editted after you replied I imagine - I couldn't see 8 ohm on their site for the Greenback.

When I bought the 8hm one it said "1 in stock" so I imagine me buying it (about 15 mins ago) took it off and they'll update with an "out of stock" or with a new stock count on Monday. They do sell them though.

Two cores? it's just lots of little strands.

OK, fair enough.
I think they'll mix lovely with your future Bassman.

And you'll use two seperate wires, right?
What I mean is not guitar cable, which is one core of strands insulated from a shielding of strands - that is NOT appropriate for speaker wiring.
I just used speaker wire you'd see on a HiFi for the lead I made for my TT.
