Amp tuner interference

Post by BobArsecake »

Why does this happen?...I can't leave my tuner on my amp head while tuning my guitar 'cause it totally fucks it up and won't tune.

Picking up the magnetic field of the transformer? Does it matter where on the amp you put it?

It sounds wank.

I take it it isn't a lil' tuner with built-in mic?

One of those Korg jobbies.

Here it is;

I don't think it does matter where I put it either.

You need DT-10.

I take it you're plugging the guitar into it, rather than just using the built-in mic? Cause putting it on top of your amp and using the mic isn't gonna give it a very loud or pure signal for it to register..

Pedal tuners are very much for the win- instant "MAKE QUIET" function and all at yer feeties. The Arion stage tuner is a cheap but totally effective solution, although it's not chromatic- just EADGBE.

Yeah I plug my guitar into it, don't use the mic. I ought to invest in a tuner pedal, bah, another bleedin' pedal.

You could always just make/have someone make you a passive A/B box to send your signal to your tuner on the floor. Although I guess that's technically a pedal, and you'd be running through batteries like a MUTHA.

I can't remember if it was the DT10 or the WH4 where I would use the dual outputs to run different chains before combining them with the Space Echo. That was always fun.

Yeah you can do that with the DT-10, only the "output" output is muted when you tune.

 That is the worst tuner ever. Throw it out the window, or better yet, bring it over here and we'll smash it on video.

THe bass player in my friend's band used that tuner until we compaired it to a boss tuner and a different korg, it was all over the place when tuning, and would usually tune a bit sharp.

Have you been giving it proper abuse though?

Will it withstand beer submersion?

I used one of them for my bass in I3 for a while because we tuned one or two semitones down and my Arion stage tuner DID NOT LIKE OTHER NOTES. It was free though, a promoter's wife gave it to me because she was tired of it being in their kitchen after some band left it there years ago.

Worked okay for me then, but the guitarist was out of tune more often than not anyways.

He just had the habit of tuning it slightly flat, to compensate for the slight sharpening of the note first off when you hit it hard in a dropped tuning. Priceless advice from some idiot muso.

Which of course was totally pointless seeing as I wasn't tuning like this and refused to, seeing as there was no way of getting it dead on. So I usually had to tune, then get him to play me an A onstage for me to match him

Idiot. I finally talked him out of it, though.

i've got the chromatic version of that tuner and it works fine for me, on top of the amp or otherwise. i used to have better tuners, but they kept getting stolen. no one steals a $10 tuner.
