Advice on amp buying...

So today, I found out that some Vox AC 30s are made in, gasp, China. This was news to me, i assumed this had to be due to Korg buying them out. At any rate, it got me thinking... I haven't bought an Amp since I bought a Sovtek head in 2001... The Amp world has changed.

Who is making a good, sub €1000, combo value amp that is made in America or in the U.K.?

Nowt wrong with the Chinese AC30s dude- I don't see how it being made in the UK or USA would change anything other than the cost. I've had a mess around on one and they're great. They had a few teething/quality control problems with the first few runs, but it's all sorted now.

i don't care where they're made, i just don't like those amps. i spent a good half an hour with one at guitar center and couldn't get a sound i liked out of it.

I'm not surprised, it's the sonic opposite of what I get the impression you like in a guitar sound.

didn't mewithoutus have trouble with his burning up rectifier tubes?

I know he went through one at least, and then build a solid-state rectifier in the tube base - while that was a cool project, I would have sent it back.

i wonder if that was just a fluke or a persistent problem with the cc line.

He said he measured the voltage and that it was out of line, like too hot. That for me would have made me use the warranty, that's clearly not right.

the voltage coming from the transformer? yeah, i would've sent that back. the ss rectifier was pretty cool, though.

What about a Deluxe Reverb RI? They're around $950 new, and they sound great....Unless you don't like the Fender sound.

A lot of the parts you buy in a UK or US amp will be made in china. Not buying it because it's made in China is silly if you're decide that based on quality, less so if it's based on ethics.

Ha sub 1000 euro combo that is US or UK made. Your choice is pretty much Laney. Fuck that. Buy whatever sounds good and ignore the tag. My TT is made in China and fucking rocks out.
