Traditional Les Paul. Holy shit, this played itself. Anyone who says LP's suck needs to get their heads out of their ass and try one of these. Anything you would rate about a guitar's playability was dead on. Smooth tight action, the pups sounded tremendous and full bodied with lots of definition. Heck shape was a llitle out of my taste range (narrow across the nut, and thick in the profile), butstill the same it was seasy to run the neck on and overall just sweet. If you're checking out an expensive guitar, spend some time on one.
I think you can find a Les Paul with a better neck. My friend has a Epiphone Custom, and the neck is small as Hell, I feel like a giant on it, honestly.
If you think of god as a pair of pants, a spiritualist thinks he needs pants, in fact he wants pants but none of the conventional types of pants seem to fit just right, so he makes his own pants and is happy that his knees are no longer cold.-fibus
I've never really played one of the traditional les pauls but i want to soon. I always just thought "ughhh everyone has a damn les paul" and overlooked it in music stores. I'll surely try one out the next time i pay a visit to a music shop tho.
i hate most pauls, but i really like the new frets on the traditional, the are more round like fender frets, not flat and shitty like all the other pauls i've played that haven't been refetted. and they are all pleked on this new model

+1 I feel the same way about most gibson guitars. I couldnt afford the new LP, but I'll still give it a go if my local music shop gets one in.

(except Gibson acoustics. I love gibson acoustics.)
I think...for me at least and many people I knew....we all disliked Les Pauls growing up..
BUT we disliked them because we couldn't afford them and were jealous of the kids whose parents were able to buy them for them.
So we adopted the "I don't like Les Pauls".
They are great guitars because they are...not becacuse they are not.
Honestly I've been a secret sucker for Ice Tea bursts like that...
That's one my favorite LP burst colors. I like that color with minimal flammage.
I also really like what they call a Lemonburst.

i can never get used to the string spacing.
i always over shoot the strings.
and for some reason i can switch between my tele(25.5 scale) and my j.s.(24 scale) with no problems but when i play kens lp i always miss the frets by 1/8ths of an inch, its weird, you would think one could switch relitivly easily but i guess im a bit retarded.
i do like how the neck pup sounds clean tho, generally anyways.
When I was looking to buy a Gibson I tried a couple of Gary Moore LPs but ended up with a Flying V - I have an irrational dislike of SGs. I like the idea of having a Les Paul (and a Tele) but it hasn't actually translated into practice.
Pauls always sound too honky to me, and don't have the distorted definition of Fenders, which just bothers me after having played Fenders... Neck pickup is useless for chording, clean sound is phlegmy... I think I really wanted to like them but I grew out of that. They do a big RAWK chord sound, manage jazzy runs with the tone rolled off, and don't particularly excel at anything else to my ears, though as I don't need any jazz/butt rock tone, I sold mine...
Odd how someone mentions Gibson hate being for their unattainability. Nearly everyone has something nearly approximate to one. Though that would be an appropriate reason to hate Strats/Teles/Marshalls as well, a million Led Zep stoners trying to make me like Les Pauls isn't going to fly.
(I appreciated the individual controls for each pickup and didn't mind the scale length, however...)

Strangely, yes, there was a kid at school who wanted to learn to play electric and his rich granny bought him a Les Paul Gold Top (this would have been 1968-69). And we all thought "What a waste. He should have to learn on a piece of garbage like this Zenta/Futurama". I don't know whether he did get to be a reasonable player.
Ugh, I'm just going to be honest; I like Les Pauls, they are really nice to play and I'd like one, though I'd keep it in my room, under my bed as a dirty secret.

Not familiar with the term Butt Rock, I did a google image search, and ended up with Krokus. Am I getting warmer? 'cause I still don't think I quite get it.
At least one thumb up on the lemon burst, less flame is the name of the game!
I do like them, and I will own one one day I am sure.
They have their good points along with their bad, but there are some understated LPs that look really hot...it's the over the top flame tops etc that I dislike.
