Wowz, so much for being a quasi clone comp box! Thanks for revealing the trooth, Mike, the MXR proves why it is a decent compie for bass guitar as well, really adding a warm thickness to join a smoother attack when set just right. Even so, the Behringer seems to have an inherent jangley brightness that some may really like. I think a Jag with flatwounds and a penchant for British Invasion noisemaking would be fun with a little bit of that thing going, too. By the way, it took just a few lines to make the whole things more enjoyable than expected. Cheers for fears, mate!

Don't know why I'm talking like F#@&$*% Scooby Doo today.

MAXIMUM EVERYTHING, even though you don't know what it means.

For £18, what do you expect? It works.

Jason LOLLARZ! :P

haha! Thanks for checking it out Andi, it's much appreciated. I often think - was this too dry? I never script anything and rarely do anything but a first take (hence all my godawful playing and mistakes) so it's nice when it comes out alright at the end of the process.

I think I'll probably sell on the Behringer because I'm not sure I have a use for a compressor, especially one with that much top-end emphasis, since I already have a nice and spanky clean sound on my amp most of the time. It was a surprisingly enlightening test though! The MXR is worth it's price tag I would say.

Very good comparison - I wish more reviewers would do true A/B tests like this.

I think I preferred the behringer at Super-Max settings, but the MXR was better on the subtle side.

Nice demo, the MXR definitely sounds a lot nicer though. Behringer must have had to tinker with it to avoid lawsuits.

Quite possibly, that and it's SMD which can mean your caps behave a little differently I think.

The dynacomp sounds great. I'd expected it to break-up a little at the full setting, like my Supercomp. You're right, it is more musical sounding. Excellent demo overall Mike.

Cheers Tim Tim, yeah, there's no breakup from the pedals themselves, but if you set the TT closer to breakup then they can definitely push the amp itself into some overdrive. I set the amp very clean though since I wanted the coloration of the sound to be the most obvious thing.

Really great demo Mike - very interesting to hear the difference. Totally agree, the MXR sounds warmer and more musical. Depends what sound you want.
Cheers Scooby ;)

The Dynacomp does what (to me anyway) a compressor is supposed to, compress but you don't hear it's there, even though you can hear that it's there. That Behringer would be great, like Ultra said, for jangly stuff. Woohoo, Sisters of Mercy.
