I'm looking to get a new recording software and was wondering what most of you guys use. It will be for home demo's and such.

Do you already have an interface or a USB mic thingy you can use to capture sond? If so, the audacity is free, and on the internetz. You could use it.

I use protools.

Sloan, do you (or anyone else) know how to program your own beats in Reaper? I just got a demo of Addictive Drums at the mo but im sure there still should be a way of using the limited set the demo gives you to program you own stuff. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. im such a dunderhead at this sort of thing.

but dudes, Reaper is free for 30 days to let you see whether you dig or not and if you do, and you are righteous, you slide them 50 bucks. And seriously, if i can work it without knowing anything about this kind of thing, anyone can.

You can setup the ReaSamplmatic 5000 to accept midi input and play a sample.
This isn't as easy as it sounds, but Reaper makes up for it by being able to route almost anything to anything else easily.

Once you get it setup and figure it out, you can do it.

-You'll need some drum samples, which you can find on internets.
-Setup an instance of Samplematic for each sample
-set the samplematic to trigger on midi signals
-make a track that is for midi information
-put midi info on it by mouse or midi controller
-tweak
-program

I hate programming drums.

PRO TIP:
download the latest user manual thing and it should have good info in it for youse.

Adobe Audition - I've been using it since it was called "Cool Edit". Probably not the best, but I've always gotten good results.
