Here's some pics of the insides of the new CIC Duo:
Cheesy Chinese pots, but the pickups surprisingly are fibreboard and not plastic. Supposedly, they are Alnico Vs and sound really good. The switch looks a bit questionable from the bottom, but it has a nice positive feel to it. I'm going to replace the pots, cap and wiring but keep that switch.
The guard is shielded, which surprised me as it's a metal guard. It's just tape on there and not aluminum. I see no reason to remove it. After these shots, I removed the bridge. There is a worm route under it for the string ground.
The tuners are stamped PW on the bottom with no country of origin. I have a set of original double lines to put on there.
The pickup routes look big enough for mini-humbuckers or P-90s... although I plan to keep the stock pickups.
The date stamp is a cool throw back, simplicity in its finest! All the Fender dates from the 70's and on confuse the shit out of me. I agree with replacing the pots and cap, even the jap made Fenders use shitty smaller diamiter pots on their guitars.
the routes seem sloppy but clean at the same time.
i bet fender watches sites like this and they did that so you could squeeze in some different pups, or add some switches to it.
the lil chuck out of the neck pocket confuses me, and it has a mexi style neck pocket which is also strange.
the date on the neck heel is very cool tho.
whats the measurement no those tuners?
if they were sized and spaced for the klusons that would be cool.
Thats the shielding paint that makes the routes look sloppy.
Regarding that little block, it isn't as tall as the body surface, so it cant support the guard at all. I don't know why it's there. I guess they figured the more wood, the better. I agree with that, but why then not do conventional routing? IIRC, they did the same thing on the 90s MIM Duo.
So far I've drilled the guard for solid shaft pots, tinted the neck, and started to rewire it...
That cap is a modern orange drop hidden inside a '50s style phonebook wrapper and wax potted. I bought a pack of them for a '54 $trat clone I built. Pretty nerdy, but I like stuff like that...

I knew exactly what it was when I saw it, I find that really lame, but whatever - it's your money.
