Jagmaster Project

Post by Fran »

I just picked up a loaded black Jagmaster body for £30 and i'm wondering what neck will fit it?
I presume its a chinese II model so were'nt they 24" scale? Would a Mustang neck do the job? I'm kind of hoping its the first chinese reissue with standard scale.

IIRC, the chinese Jagmaster bodies are built for 25.5. The newer ones have 24" scale neck, but they use a conversion neck, like the new Squier duo-sonics, so a 25.5" neck should fit on these as well.

That would be so awesome and make the project a complete bargain. I can pick a Squier Strat neck up for peanuts.
I'm thinking of doing a refin on the body, quite like Fullerplasts Shell Pink Jaggie ((drool))

Okay.
May as well have some fun here.
I'm open to suggestions on a refin. At the moment Shell Pink is in favour, <3 Orange but i got the Mustang in that colour. Also hardware. I have an allparts Jag trem that i bought specifically for the the day this project arrived, i think the Jagmaster would look aesthetically better with the trem fitted.. even if only for cosmetic reasons.
Opinions?

Here is the body, it looks like the owner has done a Thurston Mo0rez on the control plate..

Shell pink would rock pretty fucking hard. Get rid of the strat trem!

What kind of pickups will you put in?

I have an EMG 81 and a Duncan Custom doing nothing at the moment
So it could rock with the rock, but i like the idea of it being more 'retro' especially if we choose Shell Pink.

Verified!

I rocked a tele neck on my Jagmaster for a few days. It sounded nice and intonated correctly, but the tele sounded like ass with the short scale neck.

In a few days, I plan on swapping my Jagmaster neck onto my Strat copy for shits and giggles. Should be interesting.

if you're removing the strat bridge in favor of a jag bridge, then it wouldn't matter what the scale was. just position the bridge accordingly.

Nah, i'm thinking more along the lines of John Squires 'Jazzuar' were the Jag trem is only cosmetic. The Strat bridge is still there and in operation...

Image

*Edit* When the body arrives i shall place the trem on it and take a pic so youse guys can give me your opinion as to how it looks ;)

That guitar makes me so cross: it's one of the main reasons I don't like John Squire; don't do it Fran.

Say yes to shell pink. Say no to vanity trem.

LOL. I sense conflict.

Just to lay my doubts to rest, i found this information off the now redundant Jagmaster Forum;

When Squire switched back to the 24" scale, they designed a "conversion neck" so they could use the existing Jagmaster body.

Which confirms a Strat neck will fit. ((aug))

I've never understood the bad juju over the vanity trem... it's just a bit of a tramp stamp to fill out that massive Jag-ass.
