ceramic pickups usually contain a single magnet made of ceramic that magnetizes the polepieces. traditional humbuckers work in the same way, but have a magnet made of alnico instead of ceramic.
fender style pickups have individually magnetized polepieces, typically made of alnico.
ceramic pickups are often a sign of cost-cutting.

Ceramic always have the magnet bar at the bottom. Not all Fender style pickups are Alnico. Yes It is a sign of cost cutting, because Alnico is more expensive.

i didn't mean to imply they were. i should've said "fender style pickups traditionally have individually magnetized polepieces".
i guess i stupidly assumed people would know what i meant.
