They were pretty rare/valuable until some guy from Offsetguitars.com came across a gigantic stockpile of NOS white witch hats in which he bought them all up. Now that he's hoarding them, he's got pretty much full control over the price, which I think is $20 or $25 a pair.

Old Electronics shops are a good source for knobs. There is one in Lincoln i go to every now and then, he has loads of old Radio Knobs from back in the day and stuff.

The guy who has all of the the white witch hats is a member of this forum, his name is 'Fullerplast' and he sells them for like $20 a pair from what I remember. I bought some from him a while ago.

I think white would look a bit better, especially with the white pickup covers. They do look good still, and I don't think the slight increase in how good the knobs will look justifies the more than slight increase in the price.

Before he got those the prices were a fair bit higher than that.

He has a pink jag.

You can't hate a man who has a pink jag.

I don't hate anybody, but I'm not a fan.

The guy was very nice to deal with, a real gent just like he is on the forum. I can't say that I wouldn't do the same thing that he has given the opportunity.

It's mutual. But I wouldn't say it on a forum about a fellow member.

Oooops... I just did.

People are bound to get annoyed by hoarding and a 1000% markup.

I think it's a Dick Move personally, but whatever floats your boat. I personally have never bought more than I need.

OK, just pay $200/pair from TunaMatic.

Or buy repros for $80 from Allparts Japan or $100 from fatboy in the UK.

You know nothing of the situation whatsoever, but are always SO quick to judge... and always with a lame disclaimer such as "whatever floats your boat".

Buying the stock and selling them at my cost to close friends (in bulk), selling for $35 on eBay, and $25 to forum members all day long is in no way "hoarding".

Do you consider your local discount chain as "hoarding goods"?

Personally, I'd be thrilled to pay $25/pair for missing/damaged knobs on my otherwise original Jazzmaster, or other high-end project that could really use the extra bit of authenticity and set it apart from the others. Apparently about 385 people have agreed with me thus far.

As for naming my price... bullshit. I think a 75% reduction in the typical price, especially for an item no longer being made is a pretty good deal. Just because YOU don't want them doesn't make me evil.

You're just a real DICK.... and spring-loaded against everything I do or say.

Wanker.

Wow you sure did get upset. Congratulations.

I meant it when I said "whatever floats your boat", I really don't care. But guess what? it's the internets - people are going to call you a dick for doing it. Like it or lump it. I don't know why you would go off the deep end like that unless you were defensive about your choice on that matter anyway, in which case that's your issue. Or you could just be a passive/aggressive arse, who knows?

I was commenting on what was presented in this thread - that they were sold for $1 a piece, that you bought the stock and started selling them at $20 a pair. That doesn't sound like "at cost" to me, but this is second hand information and could all be inaccurate. If so you can disregard my comments, can't you?

I'd never pay $200 or $80 for knobs. They're knobs.
