orange OR50

Post by kim »

..yeah... it's still haunting me.. so i wanted to ask if there's anyone here who's been able to play through one at a shop or has a buddy who has one maybe ? what's it like with single coils ?

something tells me it doesn't have the high-gain side of that rocker model but it's more like.. what the 70's oranges sounded like ?

rocker :

Controls
Natural Channel: Volume
Dirty Channel: Gain / Low / Middle / High / Volume
Output
30w (RMS)
Valves
Preamp - 3 x ECC83, Output 2 x EL34
Speaker
1 x 16ohms, 2 x 8ohms
Dimensions
(W x H x D) 55 x 24 x 24cm
Weight
15kg

OR50

Controls
Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, HF Drive, Master Volume
Features
Footswitchable Master Volume, Plexi Glass Front Panel
Output
50 Watts RMS
Valves
2 x EL34, 3 x ECC83/12AX7
Speaker
1 x 16ohm, 2 x 8ohm
Dimensions
(WxHxD) 55x24x24cm
Weight
21kgs

what's the 12AX7 do to the sound ? 'footswitcheable master volume' how's that work ?

...i know this is just lust and this amp is not what i need really, i'm 100% happy with the rocker and altho it's 30w it's plenty loud etc so i don't give a fuck about that ... but.. this OR50 is hot. it's almost like wanting a two person car when you need a family car but the two person car seems hot. lol

12AX7 = preamp valves, they generate the dirt

Footswitchable master volume seems useless to me. You can footswitch the master volume and out of the circuit. If you set up a gainy sound with the master volume making it a reasonable volume and stomp on the switch you'll basically kill everyone you've ever met with the noise level.

you mean it's intended to be used as a boost or something ? or are you not talking about huge differences in volume but hissy noise ?

I assume he means it's like having a volume control with footswitch off, then turning it on acts as though the amp has no master volume and the amp is going to be as loud as possible at the current settings.

No idea why you would need a "louder" switch that doesn't change the tone.

Yeah the only practical use is for a slight boost, but that means you won't have any dirt unless you're playing at Stadium volume.

I keep meaning to go in to town and try it, but haven't yet.
Have recently heard that Mansons have also got one of the Custom Shop ones...Angie...priced at £2999.
