There is nothing more boring than a sunburst strat, but these pics look awesome.

Nice flame on the neck too.

I knew the specs were nice when the Namm news came out but they look good. I want to try one now.

Between the flame and the 2-tone, it looks almost exactly like the Eric Johnson Strat

Actually, I think the EJS uses Alnico III as well.

It looks exactly like every other strat, not exciting.

squier is definitely stepping it up.

I played one at the store and the neck felt a little sticky, it was also set up with 9's so it felt kinda shitty plus Sunburst strats are ugly anyway. The pickups sounded actually pretty decent tho', I think they were Duncan Designed...

I would buy it in a different color but I would lightly sand off the back of the neck

Ugh, do shops get 9s in bulk or something? The nearest store to me has 9s on all their guitars and they feel all rubber bandy to me.

I'm pretty sure they come pre-strung from the factory.

Ohh yeah of course they do shops never change strings, they're usually black and dead as hell.

They try to trick the noobs into thinking the guitar plays well - makes people who know what they're doing suffer.
I hate going to big-box stores and trying to play jazz boxes strung with 9s.

the aged covers look a little goofy. if these came in blonde, i'd be way more interested.

i doubt that every one of those will have a flame neck, and a burst that nice,
its probly an eric johnson reject with a squier decal on it.
ALTHOUGH, the vintage modified jazz bass i bought for my gf a while back has several figured maple prices on it./.........

Worst example I've found was a 1/2 size guitar I was looking at as a travel guitar. 9s and tuned standard, unusable.

Wouldn't that be phun?

I do have to hand it to Eric for what he did to the headstock though. He had the s-curve dug deeper so that one would not have the need for string trees and I actually agree with him on the point that it doesn't matter how much you lube the strings' contact points, the trees are where the strings can catch on a Strat during trem use and hard bends, throwing the whole thing off.

I did work experience once in a guitar shop during high school, they got me to restring every guitar in teh shop what had dirty strings. It took about a week, first all the electric ones and then acoustic. I got to manhandle just about every guitar in the shop! Very exciting stuff for a 14y/o but probably not so much for regular employees.

All the electric guitars were set up with 9's.

I wonder if a burst could be done well with any other colors, or it it would look like a pinball machine.

On that point, sirrah, we must agree to differ. Anyone can slap a solid colour on a chunk of wood, but I've given up on trying to do a sunburst.
Mind you, I thnk the two-colour sunburst looks like a cheap copy of the glorious 3-colour sunburst. Image

I hate sunburst, except when it's Rory Gallagher or John Frusciante playing. Then it just sort of looks right.

i did a two tone on my tele altho it sometimes looks like a three tone.
you wanna know a trick to doing a burst?
instead of spraying yellow, just stain the wood yellow and instead of using black, use a darn brown and mist the fuck out of the sides ONLY, then start building up the front and back.
before long you will get a really nice transition and the sides will be death black looking.
trust me on this.
