This guy has your white bass covers. He lives close to me, do you want me to go beat him up and take them?

I think that might actually be yellowed nitro.

After Fender switched to poly finishes in the late60's/early 70's, they found that their decals that they were using at the time wouldn't work with the new finishes. So they decided to just finish the face of the headstock in nitro, which worked well with their decals, the rest of the neck and body being done in poly.

I have a 70's p-bass that's made in this way. The face of the headstock has yellowed so much that it is the colour of an egg yolk. But the rest of the neck, with it's poly finish, looks as pale a a new MIM standard maple neck.

i didn;t really look at the pics very hard.
so you are probly right.
i knew that they used a combo of poly and nitro, but i did not realize it was becuz of the decals.

ive been playing the thing no stop pretty much all week. (to hilary's totaly enjoyment)

the paint is actually staying on!!! i got a tiny chip when i stuffed the pickups thru the pickguard hole when i first put them on but thats it. the paint hasn't come off from regular playing wear and tear.

i used Krylon Fusion paint for plastic. Dover White. its kinda off white, they had one that was more white but im glad i got what i did, it matches the Bronco perfect

also i put bass VI strings on it!!!!! .032 - .085 fuckin really skinny and easy to play like a guitar
