i haven't posted this guitar yet, though it did get a lot of action at doogfest. it's an epiphone gold-top, which i absolutely love to bits.
the problem is, i'm in a tinkering mood. i'm thinking of putting mini-humbuckers in, or maybe leaving one p90 at the neck and having a mini-humbucker at the bridge. if i put both the mini's in, it'll turn it into something similar to the guitar i've always wanted, a 70's les paul deluxe goltop.

Personally I thought it was pretty fab stock, so I'm not sure I'd want to mess with a winning formula. But I also know that tinkering feeling only too well.
it was gratis from a friend, he's stupid with guitars and even stupider with money. he got a new top of the line fender strat and decide that he was gonna smash this one up on stage. the goldtop has always been one of my favorite guitars. i have a les paul custom too, but this feels nicer. i suppose i could always change it back to p90's if i wanted. the minihumbucker and mounting are designed to be an exact match for the p90 cavity.

I liked it how it was but if it involves no modding, trying ot the minihumbuckers will probably be worthwhile. GFS probably do a decet set for cheap and even if you buy direct from them in the US you won't really lose much by selling them second hand here if you don't like them.
i have a set of duncan design minis that are in my daisy rock 12 string. i love the sound of that guitar, but think that something less beefy might sound better in the 12 string. the mounts and humbuckers on the daisy match up well with the goldtop. i shall get the screwdriver out.

the custom plays really nice, just doesn't sound right. i'm thinking of trading it in for another goldtop and mod that one for mini humbucker = best of both worlds

Seems a change to change it. Plus P90's rule.
Maybe upgrade/improve other stuff like the pots and cap? I bet DiMarzio pots and an orange drop cap would maximise performance.
how many billions of LPs are there with humbies covering this planet. P-90 gold tops are pretty much the tip top in LPs. I would love to own this guitar just how it is. you should get one of those $100 epi lp specials if you feel like moding something.
try out the firebird mini in the bridge, slam on some fuzz and play some neil young
personally, since the pickups are so interchangeable, i would have a set of mini's, and try and get some wire connectors that can be connected/reconnected many times, then you can just swap the pickups by loosening the strings, like a dan armstrong
