Mustang Bass

So I went into Music Go Round after I got off work today and saw this hanging behind the desk:
MUSTANG BASS!
This picture doesn't really show it very well. It's pretty beat up around the edges, the paint has faded to an almost pink-ish color around the edges, but is really nice in the middle still. The finish is cracked all around the edges but not in a crappy looking way... It actually looks pretty nice. The neck was in amazing condition and it sounded really good too... pretty much just like a less punchy P-bass. The guy swears that it is actually a '78, even though it's listed as an '82 for some reason, is there any way that I can tell if it is actually an '82 even though the serial number dates it at a '78? He said he could come down on the price about $50 to $100, and I'm very tempted to get it! Does this seem like a good deal?

that seems like an ok deal. fender were using serial numbers starting with S8 and S9 well into the '80s so it can be tough to date stuff like that. pot codes would be more accurate.
if you can get it for $500, i'd say go for it.

I'd walk in there with $450 cash, show him the money and walk out with the bass. He might try and say $475 and seem stubborn, but as soon as you turn towards the door you'll get it for $450.

I've tried it before with this guy... he doesn't budge below the initial bargain price... he might since it's on consignment but I'm not sure. I'll give it a try.

Also this bass is more important than that day of work call in sick.

Trans red = rare
Maple board = rare
rare + rare = DEW IT

No break... and I'm the manager and sundays are crazy.... so no go on the call in sick thing... I'm a pretty loyal customer to this store though, so if I call them and tell them I want them to hold it for me and that I'd pick it up on monday, then I'm sure they'll do it for me.

1. Buy it.
2. Have you bought it yet? If not go to 1.

So I went in today with $465 cash and the dude there (different dude than last time, this guy's a huge douche bag) he said that there was a bottom line on it since it's a consignment item and he couldn't go below $549, so after tax it came to $587 or something... so I walked out and they didn't try to stop me. They don't negotiate there... douchebags.
