so i'm screwed, g'bye garageband (until i can afford to get a new mac).. i need a temporary solution to record stuff... a small and simple program that works on xp and is similar to garageband.

i've tried mixcraft before and it's 'alright' ...my quick fix laptop is real weak and can't handle heavy programs.. i don't even kow if it'll be able to handle mixcraft (will try that out tonight wheni get home)..i asked at the store and the guy said 'no way, it'll go nuts'.. it's for internet/networking and text purposes really.

any of you who can recommend me other good freeware ?

From what I've heard, the guy who created Sony Acid Pro left to work with Apple on things like Soundtrack, Logic and GB...

When I used an older version of it, it was EXTREMELY similar, so try it out. And don't pay for it.

acid pro rings a bell, i'll check it thx.

kinda sad you can't just install osx on any computer, i'm trying to find free alternative windows progs now for just about everything (i'm used to crap like seashore, imovie, gb etc).
i heard you can make it 'look' like leopard with ubuntu but i dunno if it's actually possible to run mac progs than or it's just looks...
it's actually pretty insane there's no single low budget mac laptop available..for such a big company you'd think they'd consider it a good move to bring out something very stripped down and cheap. :?

REAPER.

It doesn't have all the built in samples and stuff like Garageband does, but scour the net and you can pick up some stuff.

You can get a cracked version of OSX to run on PC, though... Maybe cracked isn't the right word; ported?

lol i'm a geek but not a nerd.. no way i can do that myself and i don't think anyone i know can do that.

i checked acid and it was over 80 megs, mixcraft is around 40megs, it's a real tiny and weak laptop and i can't store that much on it... it was a bit spazzy with mixcraft, i'm gonna try to record something tonight to test
