63 Rickenbacker TEASER

I couldn't wait to start showing this even though I have yet to find the wiring diagram. This was the tiny all mapplez solid body Ric I got a while back. You can see that it is a full two frets SHORTER than the 24" Bronco neck. It's like a damn mandolin almost. But the body is rock hard mapplez and the rosewood neck strip is as thick as 2-3 fender veneers. The only bridge I have seen that fits was going for $170. This Sorkin was like $35. Close a-fucking-nuff. All the screws, pots, etc are Ric issue. The tuners were plastic knob 3x3 kluson, but round like Fender. My mod is to use aged green tulips for a tulip guitar. That's what they SHOULD have used all along for those. I don't think the brass nut was original for a toy like this, but it was already on there, and looks kickass. The only thing I forgot to do was drill a hole between pups for the wire to travel under the guard. THis should be the Joan Jett guitar!

As you can see, I did a slight relic treatment on the paint (some on purpose) so that it looks authentic. I had to glue the TRC and spray it with poly because it had a tiny crack by the MADE stamp. The pickguard was brand new plex so I scratch sanded it, rounded a few edges, and then painted it with acrylic paint. The composition can't be that terribly different from my Olive Garden water cup that I dip brushes in, and look at how well that plastic holds the color. You can see that I have have the color pretty close, using tan, black, and parchment white--front and back. Now that it's dry I will go back and wash and sand it to match the TRC. Even if the paint only stains in the scratches, I will be happy. It could be a while before I finish it, but I may have some time this weekend to wrap up the Stratster, a Mosrite, and tis one. Could be a big weekend in the DGNR8 house. That will leave only the blue Bronco to finish up. And hell, it's ready to wet sand.

It's huge. I guess they used to believe beginners would beat the shit out of them. But it's a painstaking custom repro plate that matches the existing screw holes almost perfectly.

That thing is crazy - is that the real body shape, as in the factory design? It looks like somebody just drew a guitary outline and followed it around with a jigsaw.

They're not bad, but I do like the old 360 style body - the one where the horns form the arc of a circle. Not the rubbish "modernisation" where they rounded all the edges off, but the original sharp edged 360. Was there ever a 6 string with that body shape?

A twelve string with half the strings missing?

It should be great once they retrieve it from the bottom of the pond where it was photographed.
