Do I get the Gretsch inside me or give it dirty to the Sonor?

Both with Birch shells

Gretsch Catalina Club Rock 16"x26" bass drum, 6.5"x14" snare drum, 9"x13" rack tom with 16"x16" and 16"x18" floor toms.



Sonor Force 2005 22" x 17-1/2" bass drum, 10" x 9" and 12" x 10" toms, 16" x 16" floor tom, 5-1/2" x 14" matching wood snare drum

It's a very nice kit, indeed. I love that up, down, down config, too.

Problem is the hardware looks better on the Sonor and I can get it about $300 cheaper than the Gretsch on craiggie's...

Maybe we'll flip the Sonor and buy the Gretsch in the long run...

as with guitars, drum companies are getting alot more out of thier lower price foreign manufactured drum sets.

gretsch, ludwig, pearl, tama, sonar are all in the game with many of these sets being made in the same plants with the same specs coming out with different logos on the hardware.


if you want to educate yourself on drums before you buy i suggest going to c and c custom drums website and reading a bit up on them.

these drums are made for touring bands and you see them all over the place in the indie circuit.

when you get into cymbals i recomend sabian or zildjian.

sabians (the good ones) are hand pounded
while all zildjian's are machine tooled

That Gretsch kit is really good, especially for the price. I have the black " 'Flake " (It is barely 'flake), but the sound quality is good. The bass is deep, but not too over-powering.

As for the cymbals, we've got this set of Paiste Rudes that we're completely homo about, so we're not really shopping there.
the guy who's selling us the Sonor is including some pretty good double braced hardware and a set of Sabian (I think HH) which we're very likely to immediately resell on the list, that is, if we end up buying the Sonor.

Thats seriously the most epic thing ever. If I were a serious touring drummer, with a few grand to spare, that would be a DO WANT. However, im not. That paisley kit is BEYOND BELIEFE.

Club Rock if you can afford it. I wanted one real bad, plus Gretsch drums are awesome.

I am also a member of the one up two down config club, i have a refurbed purple ddrum kit with an out-of-round 16" floor tom that I've slowly been replacing piece by piece though. Got a '69 ludwig acrolyte snare and nice pedal/heads. Sounds craptastic, but craptastic in style.

my drumset i got at a rummage sale when i was about 12 years old for 100 bucks. it was a mess. all carroded n shit.

my dad bought it as a sort of "real world learning exercise for me"

meaning i wasn't alloud to play it until i went over every inch of the thing with steel wool, shined every spot of chrome, scrubbed out all the basement gook on it.

THEN we completely tore off the scumbag black coverning and he helped me recover it in white. (black and white were the cheapest colors to order...and you know me cant have the same shit twice so i made him order the white. he taught me how to like up shit with a fuckin square ruler and drill holes into the covering before we glued it down to line up where all the lugs and hardware screwed into the drums. Bobroe is a machinist and has to do everything like down to the mm. by the time i got to fuckin technology class in Jr. Highschool i was a fucking pro because of this drumset.



even if i ever did buy a new set i could never get rid of this one, its got too much blood, sweat, tears, memories, and family tradition in it.

the metal chainz on my drumset is just a halloween decortaion that i bought last year that hilary wanted to throw out. its got like a cage with a plastic skeleton in it.

i hung it from the top of the porch all october last year. im not throwing that shit out, its aweosme looking so dude lives chained to my drumz year round until he goes back outside
