this wouldnt be something we would venture after at this point. the colorsound wah is readily available on ebay at $300-$400. at the cost to us to make a reproduction of it, you wouldnt be paying much less, therefore theres really no justification of it right now.
when they start getting rare and more expensive, then yeah, that would be a good time to make a reproduction.

yeah, you are pretty much on track.DuoSonicBoy wrote:Wah shell - $30-$40Ninja Mike 808 wrote:What's so expensive about the pedal, specifically?
Pot and gear assy - $20
Inductor - $20+, more for the proper Halo piece
knowing jim, we would probably make the enclosure super bullet proof, and the colorsound is a casting, so cutsom casting plus whatever we need to make the treadle and stuff. it gets expensive just for the enclosure.
then labor costs. etc. thats why we need to be able to sell a bunch otherwise we will never break even.

when you are trying to cultivate a legit company, it very much is.
im glad as a hobbyist you can build pedals on the cheap, but it gets real expensive real quick when making a faithful reproduction. hell, the superfuzz chassis itself is quite the money pit. but we dont make much money on the superfuzz. its mainly a jumping off point. hell, the retailers make more than we do, and thats only after raising the price. we may lower the price a bit and take even less of a take just so the UK and euro customers dont get taken up the arse.

i didnt realize you had interviewed all of our customers. our customers LOVE the chassis.
the whole point is to reproduce the classic sound and aesthetics.
and we did improve upon it. greatly.
stronger chassis that you could chalk a truck with, led, better components, a DC jack with a power interrupt for the battery, battery drawer so you dont have to take it apart to change the battery, etc.
the superfuzz is the same circuit, but better. i dont think a hammond brick with some paint is an improvement.

But maybe a smaller more ergonomically organised and implemented casing would be with perhaps a footswitch to switch the tones (and an LED indicator of which one was selected), and maybe knobs on the front that can be easily adjusted and clearly seen when on stage.
Plenty of people asked for a Hammond casing in the thread on HC when you decided to make this after jcyphe's recommendation. You just chose to ignore them.

HC makes up maybe like, a thousandth of our customer base.
after lots AND LOTS of research, we decided to go with the vintage style case. why? well, people wanted the vintage look and sound, without the +$500 price tag and they didnt want to bring a vintage one on the road.
we decided that the superfuzz should sound AND look like a vintage one, because part of the experienc eof that vintage pedals is looking down and seeing a superfuzz.
i get it, you dont like it. fine, i dont mind. you arent a customer. but our customers DO like it. just ask #0000 through #0176. they love their superfuzzes. and go check out the reviews page for evidence. hell, we are picking up another retailer in australia this week because he LOVES the look. in fact, thats pretty mucha ll he talked about. he loved the sound too, obviously.
the point wasnt to cater to people who want everything simplified for them. this was done for the people who want the real thing, that looked and sounded dead on. period.
you gotta understand we are catering to a niche market with the classic series of products.
we have already decided on a smaller superfuzz, but in the same format. just smaller.
people asked, we delivered, and thats why we sell pedals. every day.
we didnt "choose to ignore them". we went with what we thought was best. you cant please everyone. but we seemed to have pleased 176+ people. and hey, if its good enough for j mascis....

lol hey you dont have to like them, but they put the superfuzz on the map for a lot of the grunge generation. i like how out of my entire post you pull that out and magnify it, as if your opinion of them as a band has anything to do with it?
either way its cool that you dig making pedals. obviously you have a knack for it and you are doing a really cool thing here by using your spare time to make pedals for your friends on the cheap. i wish i could do that too. i would like to but im kinda stretched for time as it is. its like almost 3am here and im doing hopuse work cuz i dont have time during the day!
either way, lets just agree to disagree. i hate the subliminal nastiness goin on and i just want peace. i do appreciate your feedback. i just wish it wasnt veiled in hate or whatever it is.
