Apparently his channel switching is screwed up.

Ok, here's what I have:

Carvin X60B head. It's been over a year since I used it, when I fired it up the volume and tone would change randomly, and it would get all tinny and microphonic. I can't remember if there were chanel switching problems or not, and I would fire it up to test it but the kids are in bed.

So, I asked amp expert LDC if he'd tag team a repair via intrawebz and we could make a thread out of it and maybe learn a little.

there was this dude on the old socal rock board called brian dixon that we all called carvin man. he knew everything there was to know about carvin and their gear. he should've fucking worked for them because he was their best spokesman. great dude. his kid died in a fucked up car crash a couple years ago and we slowly lost touch with him...

maybe dots knows how to get a hold of him...he could prolly help some too.

No way, I've had this amp since 1985. It's been gone through three times before this, mainly because it saw a lot of rough duty in the 80's and 90's.

Sounds like preamp tubes or filter caps.

It's had its share of beer on it to be sure.

My Ampeg was doing the same thing, and I took it to an amp repairman, he found a leaking cap. Look at all your caps and see if one is leaking shit out of it.
