Pickguards are often spendy. I think it;s the material. You can sometimes luck out on an older one.

think about it like this, depening on the raw material its about 20-45 bucks a sheet.
and if its tort, 5 ply, or MOP its on the higher end, i think the absolute cheepest is grizzley and its so so looking.
but basically, anytime you buy something, you are buying it for 2x more than what it costs.
so if it costs 20 bucks to make, you pay 40.
get it?
you could however save that 40. plus another 40, and make yourself a guard by buying a router, a small amount of partical board and some plastic.

i have a router, and was going to cut one out, but i figured i could save a step and just buy one.

however,

they are not a very exciting purchase :(
