Ultraphone 7-stringer

I almost titled the thread "Don't tell Cindi: Episode 2".

Yeah, so I went to the Nakwon market to buy a nice used resonite Yamaha Clarinet (decided it was going to be my next instrument to attempt to learn), and went over to see my friend Choongwon at a shop down the hall, who had a nice LP 7 Stringer among a heap of early 2000s NOS Epiphone Dots. Played it, dug it even with rusty strings, asked him to confirm the $400 price tag, and he said "If you really want it, I give it to you for $225". Boom...$225, Dame soft case included. I had an '80s LP Custom that I didn't like at all about 10 years ago, but this is a different creature altogether.

NOS Saein(R.I.P. sniffle sniffle) factory-made dated 2000 in a burst I can't quite put my finger on: Honeyburst? Tangerine?...It's easier on my eyes than a traditional cherry burst, and the back is definitely a transparent orangey deal. P'ups are bright and klangy, neck is huge, plastic still on the guard, hardly a scratch to be found, very nicely finished. Weight is about 8.5lbs, but with the bigger neck it doesn't feel too bad, balance wise. I wanted a 7-stringer way back to add lower chunks to my wannabe shoegazing soundscapes, but I'm finding the cleans are just as delightful, if not more so...

AMAZING. I've always thought about getting a 7-string. (I've about capped collection-wise, though) Seems like great creative fun.

Actually, Ultrametalolz.

But watching the clean lines I played again, I imagined you inward singing and ring modulating errie shieks over the arrpegio part. :P

Thanks Paul and guys, I just couldn't pass up an aging Korean gem. Google isn't helping me understand the concept of the different bursts at the moment, so for now I'm gonna call it honeyburst (as friend Choongwon called it) too.

It's tricky once you go beyond 5 minutes of power chords and scowling facial expressions in the mirror...and actually start using all of the strings to make sense of it all, but I think it will be a lot more useful for layering and ambiant effects here and there than I had anticipated.

Those pickups are like an Optical illusion.

It's like looking at that bird with the three tata's from Total Recall.

Haha, who can forget that creepy scene/flick?

Yeah, Aen: I gotta think of how to be resourceful, but you're on for something. It just might be hard for me to get out of my bubbly pop cocoon, tho.

Very nice - I might try to track down a 7-string for jazz some time in the future. I just need to find something that isn't METAL.

go donkey style, regular 6 string with the 6 heavy strings from a 7 string set.

I love seven strings.

I have a guitar that's tuned to A. I think the heaviest string is a 072, so that would be seven string guage, wouldn't it? It's great, but unfortunately it looks a bot daft, being an old purpleburst superstrat that I bought off Nick.
