The Mustang colours that Fender doesn't want you to ever see

As we all know, Fender USA has decided that the very last thing that non-Japanese customers want is an interesting colour selection on their instruments. I'm sure that any day now, Fender USA will limit its colour selection to only flat gray primer (and sunburst for a $50 upcharge). I'm sure that their managers dream of being able to shut down ReRanch so that no one can ever again have access to the classic colours that we love. Until that day comes, enjoy these pics I found of what our Japanese brothers and sisters get to buy at their guitar shops.
Some bonar inducing pics from Japanese retailer Musicland...
Competition black '65 RI
Competition Shell Pink '65 RI! (looks more like Lavender to me, though)
Metallic (Sherwood?) green '65 RI
Rebole yellow '69 RI
From Ishibashi:
Ice Blue Metallic '69 RI

those japs are crazy. there's a guitar shop near me called guitarguitar and the guy had managed to get hold of some jags and jazzies in daphne blue, sherwood green etc. brightened the place up a bit.

Guitarguitar is a suprisingly good shop. They had a Baja Tele when Mike was wanting one and I almost hooked him up with it.
Seem to be Northern only though.

I can never navigate those Japanese sites and it breaks my heart. I need you lot to hook me up with pretty pictures.
It's probably a good thing otherwise I would probably do something silly.

Yeah it was just a little pricey. That phonecam picture made me DO IT though.

i heard the guy that started it used to be one of the bigwigs at sound control but he got fucked off and started that up instead. as usual they can be a bit pricey but if you come into the shop waving a bit of paper with 'the internet' on it they're willing to haggle.
oh! CC music on otago street is back. i'm going through one day next week to have a nosey and see what they've got. fuck sound control, i'm glad they're gone.

I think it was like £449 or £479 vs. £389 online.
Not the worst markup I've seen (hello £649 for the 65RI Mustang in Denmark St vs. £489 online) but still, it was a "No" at that price.
In Guitarist this month there are Baja Telecasters advertised for £749 in some shops, and that's a
featured guitar in the advert.

Ahem. Google says £375.

That's what I love about buying guitars in the UK: dumbfuck shops where they have Epi LPs reduced to £549. That's what our US cousins could buy a proper Gibson for. But if you think it's bad now, you should have been around in the 80's... Sweet Cheesus, those were bad times. A Sunn Mustang strat with patented tuneloss (TM) trem would set you back a month's wages.

I don't see what could be wrong with a cheap Strat trem that can't be fixed by tightening the screws/blocking it.
Tuners on the other hand are a killer.

they actually usually have some lefties rather than none which is good in my books. I almost bought a RIC Tokai copy from them this time last year mike might remember. I was lusting after that guitar. But it wasn't pure i need it lust after I played it.

if i was going to try a guitar out i'd probably do it there, they have a soundproof booth through the back. i loathe sitting in the middle of a shop surrounded by longhairs and beerbellied jazz dads sneering at my playing.

Yeah I remember. I was surprised you didn't get tallywhacked by a Rickenbacker representative after playing it, so hot they are on people ripping them off.

Oh and I played through a Laney Lionhead amp and a VC15 which I liked a lot better than my VC30 actually. Ah wells.
Whoever had the Tokai had scrapped off the label so it looked a bit more RIC like but it was a bit too round for it.

Black and Ice appeal. I would use a red red torty with the black.
